Art at the Musee d'Orsay

avatar

My first introduction to an art museum was in Washington DC. I was a young mom and had taken my kids to spend a couple days in the city seeing all the things that I never got to see when I was a kid. We took a short cut through the National Gallery of Art simply to get from one street to another easily.
I was a small town girl and had never been in an art museum before and suddenly there I was standing in front of a Rembrandt. A real Rembrandt! And it overwhelmed me that this was actually THE famous painting that the artist had created. Not a print, not a photograph, and I was awestruck.

Since then I have been to see some amazing works of art in fantastic museums all around the world.

These photos are from our family albums and were taken a few weeks ago when my kids went to Paris.

The Orsay Museum was a major Parisian railway station called Gare d'Orsay between 1900 and 1936 and was restored and renovated in the 1980s.

Fields in the Month of June by Charles François Daubigny, 1874

Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Giovane Donna Con Violtetta 1870

.
My granddaughter viewing Madame Pascal portrait by Leon Bonnat- 1874 I'm so pleased that my kids love art museums as much as I do!

Pierre-Auguste Renoir used Henriette Henriot as his model for La Parisienne. She was sixteen years old at the time of the painting and had not yet begun her stage career.

Masked Ball at the Opera- Edward Manet

GIUSEPPE DE NITTIS. In the wheat fields 1873

Le Havre, Bateau de Pêche Sortant du Port, 1874, Claude Monet (1840-1926)

Paul Cézanne - Montagne Saint-victoire -
Cézanne spent a lot of time in Aix-en-Provence at the time, and developed a special relationship with the landscape. He could see this particular mountain, from his house, and he painted it in on numerous occasions.

On a trip to France in 2003 I got to go for a hike on Cézanne's mountain. I brought back a pocket full of rocks that I picked up during my hike.

Being in front of the arts that you only know from the books is a wonderful feeling. But getting to emulate the artist and visit the place he immortalised in his painting is incredible. 🙌❤️

What a wonderful way to spend time with beautiful artwork. It's so nice to hear that the grandchildren love art too in this modern age where everything is instantly accessible.

I always liked the impressionists but seeing them in person gave me a whole new appreciation for their skills.

We passed through d'Orsay and Aixe de Provence on our way to the French Riviera 9 days ago and it was stunning.
Very inspiring to be honest. 📸🎥😊👍🏼
It got me writing again which is wonderful for me at least lol.

I'm just editing a video on Beatrice De Rothschild's villa in St.Jean Cap Ferat.
It is stuffed to the gunnels with fantastic art...coming soon.

It's been brilliant so far. 4 weeks has gone by in a flash. On Wednesday we head off to Italy. I posted the Rothschild video on YouTube. I'll cross post it to here tomorrow.
37 degrees today thankfully we have air conditioning 🥵😂👍🏼

We went to a museum when I was young. I don't remember hardly anything about it, except that some of the art was amazingly large, dark and boring. LOLOLOL ! I don't remember what age I was, but obviously too young to have any idea what I was actually viewing.

I haven't visited museums much as an adult. I did when I lived in San Antonio, their museum of art and I thoroughly enjoyed it all as an adult. Some art was still huge, but very little of it was dark.

I enjoyed seeing your photos.

I suspect it may not be as necessary to visit museums when you are busy creating your own art, and your walls are covered with fantastic paintings! ♥️

It's hard for me to believe myself that I have not been to more over my life, but I don't really know why I never pursued it more. Somehow, I still managed to use up all my time. LOL !! I do live in an art gallery, that is for certain.

This is my favourite painting out of all the ones you have captured. It's wonderful to see how that experience sparked a lifelong love for art and museums, now shared with your children and grandchildren. Your family's appreciation for art is truly inspiring, and it's heartwarming to see the legacy continue through the generations. Thank you for sharing this lovely memory! 🖼️

Isn't that an amazing work of art? All those hats! It captures a moment in time, almost like a photograph would.
I do love knowing that I have had a part in instilling an enthusiasm for art in my family.
