First opened in 1959 was Fairy Park what was to be Australia's first theme park located in Victoria. Modeled on places like Disney land this Aussie take saw multiple small replicas of Brother's Grimm stories developed instead of Walt Disney. The park has continued to remain in operation although it never really blew up into what we see Disney Land as although the park has been keeping people amused through generations and the fact that it is still operating is a wonderful jog down memory lane for me as I now get to take my children here.

One of my favourite things is the kids play ground and it's probably worth going just for that! It's not like a new modern play ground although some of the tunnels have been sealed off from when I was a kid. This is an old school playground where they went and built a replica castle with archery towers, watch towers, fire man poles to drop between levels, rides that are manual.

Even more fun is that the walls of the play ground castle are hollowed out with tunnerls and spaces that kids can actually climb into the wall and move about and pop out at different locations.

Be warned, this is a 1960s playground so it is all hard, corse and there isn't anything soft to land on. It is concrete and steel with a few new additions of a plastic slide.

There are fall dangers from the watch towers and no doubt if this was built today, probably wouldn't get planning permit approvals but oh my gosh was this a fun jog down memory lane and being able to experience this with my kids was amazing.

I was even amazed at how soft we have made kids these days, I ran straight to all the play equipment and joined them on the towers and walk ways. A thing I would have done when I was their age to, run straight to it.

My kids were hesitent and at the start scared due to the hight and lack of soft ground. My youngest kept asking if it was safe. My oldest was following me along but she kept saying "wow, this is a bit scary you played here as a kid?".

If you're ever in Australia this is defo a must visit location. Each set up has a story attached to it and characters that move.

Stay tuned as I will pop up our video segment of the magical wonderland in a few days onto 3speak!

I can understand why your kids are scared but kudos to them for taking a bold step to play at the park. The fairy park looks beautiful especially the playground section
That’s nice…

I love how they maintained it. One could barely know it was built in the 1960s.
