In Case You Are Still In Doubt

(Edited)

As the ball hit the back of the net, sadness engulfed me as I had a feeling of déjà vu. I just couldn't accept the fact that these guys snatched it all for themselves at the end. I just couldn't believe the hope I had carried since Anthony Gordon put Newcastle ahead in the first half got wiped off at the death.

When Kevin De Bruyne was introduced in the 69th minute I knew he could change the game, but I had hoped it wouldn't be too heartbreaking for me. In just five minutes he wiped out Newcastle's advantage by scoring the kind of goal reserved for players of impeccable talent like him. The way he guided the ball beyond Dubravka was a thing of beauty. However, what surprised me the most was how often he got to be byline to put inviting crosses into Newcastle's six yard box again and again.

Also, if De Bruyne was some ordinary player, he wouldn't try the pass that led to Oscar Bobb's winner. But, as we all know, the Belgian is not your regular midfielder. In fact, he is not to be compared with anyone out there - asides prime Messi - when it comes to doings just outside the 18 yard box. He's peerless. And now that he's back, and with a certain very tall Norwegian, Haaland, about to return, it just looks like the EPL title race is run.

Anyways, Newcastle vs City was a very interesting, end to end football with some quality goals in it. Man United vs Spurs was equally an interesting encounter for the neutrals, but a somewhat difficult watch for me. The way Spurs continually cut through Man United's midfield was heartbreaking. I can't help but imagine what the scoreline would've been if Madison and Son played instead of Oliver Skipp and the hardworking but indecisive Timo Werner.

Finally, I get to watch some minutes of the ongoing AFCON tournament in Côte D'Ivoire. I haven't really watched any AFCON tournament since the one where about 80% of the first round of games ended in frustrating goalless draws that was filled with tackles that could as well pass as physical assault, and lacking in technicality. I stayed away ever since. I hope this tournament will be a lot more interesting than the previous ones.

Those surprises are what we enjoy in the game. It will be boring if we already know the end game, isn't it?

Thanks for stopping by, #dreemer.
