ENGLISH VERSION

Today I revisited the Christopher Columbus Cemetery with the gaze of someone who appreciates art that is linked to the history of wonderful beings who bequeathed us important works.

On this occasion I came with the preconceived idea of looking for the place where the remains of two Cuban personalities rest, José Raúl Capablanca and Dulce María Loynaz, both have left their indelible mark on the history of humanity, each with their particular gift, chess player and poet, both recognized worldwide.

At the entrance of the cemetery are the offices of procedures, I went to one of them to look for information on the location of the graves I wanted to visit. It's easy to find what you're looking for because the streets are named with letters and numbers. To facilitate the search, taking the main street as a reference, the right wing has the odd numbers and on the left they are even. When I received the directions I easily went to them.

José Raúl Capablanca

We are very proud that Capablanca is among the greatest chess players in the world, he was world chess champion between 1921 and 1928. Since he was a child at the age of 4 he already knew how to play and learned by watching how his father played, he still did not know how to read when he already played and beat his father's friends. It earned the nickname the Chess Playing Machine.

He died in 1942 while participating in games at the New York Chess Club. His body was transferred to Cuba and his burial was carried out in this cemetery, however, his tomb was very simple and remained almost anonymous for 4 decades.

When the centenary of his birth was celebrated in 1988, a chess piece was placed on his tomb, a beautiful King made of marble by the Cuban artist José Florencio Gelabert.

Since that date, the place where the remains of this illustrious Cuban are located can be easily recognized from afar. This is one of the most visited tombs by Cubans and tourists from all over the world.

Dulce María Loynaz

She was a great Cuban writer who is one of our literary prides, her exquisite literature and her beautiful poetry allowed her to win the Miguel de Cervantes Prize.
Until a few days before his death at the age of 94 he was receiving tributes for his extensive and beautiful work.

His tomb is very simple, it has a beautiful sculpture that represents God and a marble plaque engraved with some verses from one of his poem Love is

Love is forgiving;
and what is more than forgiving,
it is to understand...
Love is to cling to the cross,
and nailed to the cross,
and die and rise again...
Let God
Breathe along with me!

I do not stop admiring the beauty of the sculptural works and pantheons that I find at every step, I enjoy every detail very much, they are wonderful works that deserve our care and attention.

This cemetery is one of the most fascinating places to visit due to the large number of valuable works, sculptures and funerary monuments with various styles, all made with great quality and beauty to pay tribute and keep alive the memory of their passage through the lives of important personalities.

For this reason I want to share some of these beautiful works that deserve to be known by everyone.

Amor es perdonar;
y lo que es más que perdonar,
es comprender...
Amor es apretarse a la cruz,
y clavarse a la cruz,
y morir y resucitar ...
¡Dejad que Dios
Respire junto a mí!

Wow the entry of this cemetery is very imponent 👀.and for some reason (or at least to me heh), it's not scary at all 💜. Idunno I think it's where I live, that cemeterys have a kind of dark energy and looks kind of dark? 🤔

Definitely the architecture it's well preserved... I liked that a lot 🤩

Cheers✨

Thanks very much for your appreciation and support. This cemetery is special, I see it as a big open-air museum, that's why I like to see each grave and each sculpture as works of art. Best regards 🤗
