Fun walk along Obispo Street in Havana
Hello friends, this time I join the initiative of our friend @tattoodjay to share with you a fun experience that my husband and I had when we walked over the weekend along Obispo Street in Old Havana.
Obispo Street is a very old street, with cobblestones and very busy, it is a must for anyone who is passing through our city. It starts at El Floridita, the emblematic bar where the tasty and refreshing Daiquiris made famous by the writer Ernest Hemingway are prepared and ends at the Plaza de Armas and the Templete, places full of history that make us fall in love with their unparalleled beauty.
This street is a boulevard, it is very narrow and there are no cars so we can walk freely admiring the beauty of the colonial architecture of its buildings that have been restored for their conservation.
We begin to make the tour along the 11 blocks and we find all kinds of shops, pharmacies, hotels, bookstores, museums, bars, restaurants and even a craft fair where we can always find a souvenir of our visit.
The temperature is very cool at this time of year so we could walk with more pleasure, also as the street is very narrow we always have the shade that the buildings that are on both sides give us.
The street was very lively with many people walking along it, suddenly we felt a conga and when we turned around we saw a group mounted on high stilts dancing to the rhythm of the conga with the unmistakable and contagious sound of the Chinese bugle inviting us to dance as they passed.
As if that were not enough, this street has the first headquarters of the University of Havana that was later rebuilt and became the University of San Gerónimo, its contemporary building contrasts with the colonial architecture that surrounds it.
We stumbled upon the Ambos Mundos hotel and wanted to visit Hemingway's museum room, but it was closed so I decided to come back another day to see it.
But the funniest thing happened to us at the end of Obispo Street, when we found a musical group that was singing the Guantanamera, we stopped to enjoy and sing with them, to our surprise one of the musicians invited us to play the maracas and we gladly pleased him, it is my first time that I play maracas and they told me that it sounded with a good rhythm haha it is that music is in our blood.
We really had fun and enjoyed this moment, that's the most important thing.
It is my wish that you liked this tour and if you ever pass through here do not hesitate to have fun, enjoy the moment and take the stress out of our day to day.
See you soon!
