Splinterlands - Reflecting On Waka Spiritblade

Today's AMA had a lot of great news but something that caught my attention even after the call was the upcoming new promo card Waka Spiritblade.

What peaked my interest is that the card is limited in that only 1,000 will ever be printed. Each one will come as max level and there are 960 regular and 40 gold foil. With this kind of of numbers it reminds me a lot of the mystery potion promo cards.

Mystery Potions

Gone are those days where we can purchase a mystery potion and have it open potion at the beginning of the day in hopes of pulling one of the very limited promo cards.

In the order the pictures above are shown is the print out of prior promotion cards that players could earn by opening mystery potion. However odds of pulling one of those cards was very rare since at the time it was only limited to 1,000 each. Once the 1,000 marker was hit there would be another promotion card afterwards for replacement. In total there were 3 promo cards in the mystery potions.

Each one of the cards if pulled were automatically max level cards. All this is very similar to upcoming Waka Spiritblade. I am excited to see what will be in store for how the card will be sold since its mystery potions no longer exist in the game.

For starter during the AMA it was mentioned 500 of the Waka would be sold through Splinterlands in game and another 500 through Wax chain. In order for players to participate it will require some amount of SPS and Vouchers. No details were mention as to how much and if SPS is use to purchase or staked to qualify.

With over 700,000k accounts that have spell book it leaves me to wonder even though Splinterlands if offering a new promo card will the 1,000 ever to be printed the right amount? Since the explosion in players the vision has been to create more cards for new users to be able to play with because prior to Chaos being introduced there were not enough cards to go around.

Then there is also the factor as the way Waka can be bought rather than pulled out by luck. This makes me believe top 1,000 whales or even less than that will be the ones able to purchase not one but multiple of these making them hoarding what will become one of the most limited cards in the game.

In addition I am also curious how the card will play out in actual battles. A 3 mana legend summoner is definitely rare but to have the poison ability it sure makes death splinter look all the more interesting to use if players can play with Waka. I can see the card work well with range monsters or even magic monsters. In a way with poison on opponents its almost as good as the Blast ability.

Conclusions

More announcement regarding the details price requirements on Waka will be coming out sometime next Tuesday. If and when it does it remains to be seen how this card will effect the game. For now its bringing in a sense of excitement as we have not seen a limited printed card for a while.
