Splinterlands Market Cards Depleting?

avatar

Card prices have remain stable for a time period. Yet what I have noticed is that the quantity of cards for sale have been dwindling. This of course excludes the most recent Chaos Legions series and its associated Chaos reward cards.

Today's post I discuss some examples of what I mean by cards dwindling. We will focus mainly on regular foil cards since gold foil inherently is significantly limited that some gold foil cards are not even offered in the open market. Then let the readers decide if this is true and if so if this is beneficial to the game as a whole or hurt it.

Untamed

Across Untamed legendary there are close to 2,000 of each card. Now these cards ranges from level 1 all the way to their max level of 4. So imagine then how many players could actually own any one of these Untamed legendary? There won't be that many with the cap currently being around 2,000.

We then see a trickle down effect where on the open market there are not many options to pick from:

Plenty of cards have less than a dozen on the market currently so even if someone had a ton of crypto to spend it would be very expensive for them to purchase.

Older Reward Cards

Out of print reward cards from past series behind Chaos are also shrinking in quantity on the open market. We see this by looking at epic reward cards for example. Plenty of epic reward cards have less than 100 in the open market. All this out of a range of 5k to 20k in quantity per each card. A wide range but the end results of what is happening is consistent. There are less cards available for sale on the open market.

Total Caps Per Series

In Alpha Series:

In Beta Series:

In Untamed Series:

In Chaos Series:

Interesting to see although the majority of cards for sale on the open market comes from Chaos series the total value of Chaos is not too far off from Alpha and Untamed. In fact out of all four series it is Beta series that stands out the most at over 10 times that of any of the other series.

To pin point a little its the gold foil edition cards that is propping up the total value of each series. Take that out and now Beta is at a fraction.

It is the same across the board, simply gold foil cards are taking a significant amount of the total value of a series. Now how would this make regular foil cards so scarce?

Gold foil being limited in supply turned into an increase in price. We see that in total value of each edition. We then have to ponder down the road a few years from now the regular foil cards will have likely further reduce in supply that could likely be at numbers where gold foil cards are today. That will likely me higher prices for regular foil while quantities are lower.

Conclusions

All this less cards on sale on open market I personally believe is a good thing. This proves investors / gamers are long term holders of Splinterlands. We don't see flooding of older cards rather holders, diamond hand holders. This will all lead to lower supply while reasonable demand with an end result of higher prices. Its just my take on why market has less cards for sale now than previous days. What do you all think?

Until next time thanks for reading!!!

full implementation of land will make cards very scarce, some are already loading up their inventory with max cards.

It definitely will be difficult to max cards without deep pockets at this rate. !WINE !LOL

It looks like there are a ton of people who are preparing for land. Is this only for the older cards or is it also affecting chaos legion cards?

The reason for this more than anything is the new market expiration system.
