Splinterlands in Survival Mode?

A couple of days we got the announcement that a new battle format would be coming out in a few months. Link to the full story here.

Here are my thoughts. First having something new is always going to attract attention. To see an opportunity to be able to play all cards in battle besides wild mode is very attractive. To me legacy cards are more useful if they can be played. What hinder wild is likely the fact that bots infested the format to the point that new cards simply over power the legacy cards.

To bring this all back in a new format seems counter to trying to eliminate excessive bot play. Yet there were many other features new at the time rolled out that turn out for the better. My concern still is that allowing boys free rain in play is not a benefit. Even if new format is exciting just the thought that more bots can play makes it not as noticing. We shall see.

The rewards distribution in this survival format is meant to parallel that of modern and wild. Therefore I am assuming the format if kept permanently would drain ever more of the scarce sps that is left for winning. I guess it’s alright unless we consider that this new format don’t count energy in battles but cards utilization rate.

Would that actually crack open a new approach of playing the game if we play off card utilization? For instance players who hold duplicates could essentially dominate the format of play and if they have multiple max cards. Players such as whales with a large collection would crush the competition. Add on top they would probably have sufficient funds to invest in bots making the whole thing a massive richer takes all kind of gameplay. The smaller players not only can’t win much but are beaten on the premise of having less. This does not sound good long term.

I may be sounding pessimistic but these are just my initial thoughts. We still have to wait and see.

Until next time thanks for reading!!!

Great idea to have some more utility for older cards. I agree with you though, I'm not a fan of including bots to any format.

Thoughts on cards having limited use versus use of energy in that new format of play? It also sounds like the more cards one owns the more play time. Not ideal if big whales hog up all the game play.

I think it's good to see older cards used but I am not sure that I like all the bots. It sounds like an extension of Wild League and I am not sure what will happen to SPS that we earn. If they cut down SPS from ranked battles for survival, that will kind of suck.

Having automated play simply defeats the purpose of pvp gaming for me. I may as well just play console games.
