Don't Leave Splinterlands...

avatar

In recent days after reading so many articles, podcasts, and youtube videos regarding the news of whales leaving Splinterlands being its downfall I like to put in my perspective. The title of this post pretty much shows my position on the topic, but hear me out.

Back In The Day

@j6969 was one of the first whales in Splinterlands. He had owned over tens if not hundreds of alpha max level sets but decided to sell it all out in a time where Splinterland's future was not certain but progress was to be made. j6969 did not like the direction the game was going and below is direct link to his post stating why he wound up leaving.

https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@j6969/the-incoherent-ravings-of-a-mad-man

The crust of his dislike was the impact bots were doing to Splinterlands. People with very little would be able to extract rewards easily and in bulk with the use of bots. His post was written in 2020 and to this day the core issue of bots is still an issue. Yet roll into 2023 and Splinterlands is still here. Its market cap may not be at all time highs but it sure is not zero. The game is still running and multiple updates are in the horizon. What better time to be playing than today if we were not already playing the game?

I started playing Splinterlands in 2018. I had my account in June 2018. Through the years I had times I needed to get away from the game in order to deal with personal life activities, but overall I had stay active enough to watch its evolution.

I started with zero in the game and earned what I could through the years. Although nowadays the rewards and earning are no longer as easier in the past it has retain value and it is not impossible to gain some sort of value from the game.

No matter what doubts you may have for the game it does not mean its the same for everyone. For every person that leaves there will be others to join because they see the value Splinterlands has to offer.

Let me finish by saying @j6969 maybe right that the bots have hurt more than help Splinterlands. Yet he was wrong that the game would end up worthless. I still play and so does countless others. As developers of Splinterlands continue to evolve the game and introduce new elements/side games in time more players will join.

What To Do?

Do what you want as this is not financial advice. What I will be doing is saving up and buying up cards where I need to build a Chaos deck. I am not going to back out or leave when I have enjoyed the game for this long. I admit its not the best and there are days I feel like I need some time off. Yet I always come back because it is truly my most favorite game for the past half decade.

Until next time thanks for reading!!!

Bots are damaging game reputation, Hopefully they will be banned to Zero.

It's good to see your loyalty and devotion to the game. Good luck!

Personally, I stopped playing a couple of years ago. I didn't like the way the game expanded and diluted. I still own some cards and pick minor passive income from lending. And I still have some Untamed packs. They retain the value quite good, thank you.

Imagine if the folks who ran bot farms used their brains to actually market the game. lol instead of exploiting our investment they could help everyone!

@mawit07 Great post, I like your point of view😊 Just like you, I have been playing the game since June 2018, bought some Alpha, and later on Beta packs, and from there I have mostly been building my deck on rewards.
Of course I bought some Chaos Legion packs, I had to....I don't know if it is the same with you, but like a year or two ago, I really started to struggle to reach even Gold league, card editions later than beta are just stronger, didn't think that was funny, with a collection power well over 300,000 at that point...It is actually still an issue, and that has made me thaink about what to do...leave the game or invest more money, hence the Chaos Leigion buys...
All in all I just love the game, and I'm going to continue playing, even if it means that I have to fall even further down the ranks.....😀

In the exact same spot as you as I struggling to get higher than gold. I’ll continue playing because life is more about taking the journey than the results. If I continue to try I have a chance to get there !LOL !WINE

Players might've agreed with the first few roadmaps and were happy to be a part of that journey, though now Splinterlands is making a lot of new changes to better accommodate its growth and the early players might not like what they see and choose to get out. With the many new games that are coming out on Web3 and Blockchain maybe cashing out now while the current roster of games are at a peak is an idea worth acting on.

It'll be interesting to see how the card market handles if more whales decide to stop interacting with the dApp entirely. Thanks for sharing!

Been a fan in console games for a while and have learned not the best tech always win. Nintendo wii is a good example. I think there will always be better tech games than Splinterlands but the difference is will it be as fun? !LOL

The way we see it is issues, so it's so old in them and other people have stopped playing it because of it, eliminating the team altogether.

The one big mistake Splinterlands made was to allow bots which are now a big problem and in my opinion are the main problem.
With the introduction of anti-bots Splinterlands will take a major step forward and I hope that in the future bots will be completely blocked otherwise Splinterlands will not last long. I'm still playing and investing because Splinterlands is still my favourite blockchain game and if some whales sell I'll try to catch the opportunities for buying assets at good prices ;)

Where there are games with lucrative rewards there will bound to be bots. Splinterlands will try curbing the use of them and I think that’s going in the right direction. Thinking long term it held up pretty well even with all the bots playing so imagine it can only go up from here !LOL !WINE

I agree that the bots may have hurt the economy more than it helped. I also don't plan on leaving Splinterlands and I think it's a pretty good system as it is. We can earn rewards from blogging and invest them back into Splinterlands. I am unsure where things go once the CP to SPS changes happen and land 1.5 is released.

Wow I didn’t realize you’d been in since 2018! You’ve truly seen everything evolve for Splinterlands, that’s pretty awesome!

If 'keep playing the game because it still exists' was such an enticing argument,
I would be playing Solitaire or minesweeper right now instead of Splinterlands.

Funny how lazy attitude I have but I think the time and effort I put into playing made it difficult for me to let go. If you ever heard of storm8 games well world war was a daily game for me and when it got shutdown that was it for me. Lost of a job and stumbled onto hive I then got hooked to Splinterlands. I’m not very savvy mobile game player you could say.
