Hello Hivers ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’˜,

In agricultural mindset the mixing of crop while growing up is one of the best method I have ever practice since so many years ago and this has been of help to me personally and practically. It is not easy but it can be done. There are some safe measures that I practice to make sure that this has to be in place. Before I even put in any kind of effort the first thing I always do is to sight a very good location for cultivation of crops. This location will actually give me a possibility of how the farming will go. This is one of the mistakes that most farmers do with a lot of researches I made recently, I concluded that it has been most Practices by many people. When you do not do a lot of analysis before you plant your crop either sole cropping or mixed cropping System, it will later affect the whole Farming at large. Take for instance this particular Farm is a combination of both Maize ๐ŸŒฝ๐ŸŒฝ Farm with Eggplant crops. In combination with other crops as well. I really enjoyed this type of cropping system because it's gives me a lot of impression positively and a very good farming activity. This Farm activity is always shown one step at a time.

Most people jump into farming because of the kind of produce their neighbors see at the end of the Farming season, but I can assure you that agriculture is beyond that. You need to be motivated internally so that at every stages you will always flow along with your crops and animals. When you interview so many farmers you will always engage in what is called patience in agriculture. That is why it is not easily seen youth to be a farmer unless you are born originally as a farmer or into a farmer family. And you also train yourself to be a farmer. Most people you see that go into farming are elderly people. Nobody is ready to move along with patience in agriculture. And that is why most produce fail. The mixing of crops is a very good farming system which will give you opportunity of interacting with a lot of crops on the same piece of land which may be of different species. This species of crops ranging from the ones you have already researched on. You must always do your research first for every crop you want to cultivate. And that is why you need a lot of time to run around and ask people which of the crops grow faster and do best in that particular agricultural farm area. This is not about using your own personally power.

The rate at which you will engage in Farm activity we also increase as your crop grows. With practical experiment and practice I observe with record keeping that when you plant your maize crop in combination with crops like okra or green vegetables it will give it a lot of shade to some extent, and this will improve your crop in terms of heavy rainfall and too much sun. I took some pictures of the mixed cropping system when I got to the farm and how I also manage them equally.

  • These are maize crops and they are doing great in the midst of other crops although this is the method I used. I first of all planted the Maize seed and when it has already germinated and grow up to 3 weeks then I introduced another separate crop entirely. This has been my own practice and method of cultivation ever since I started my own farming while I was in the university.

There are also few stands of tomato plant. I have one on more things to say concerning this tomato plants. When you give your best into any type of cropping system you will always enjoy the production and that is the final. When I transplanted the tomato plant into the agricultural Farmland so many months ago, I started applying a lot of effort in terms of adding water morning and evening. And to my surprise it started growing up more with a lot of flowers and that was all.

I also engage in the eggplant farming because these are not been established in recent time at all. With a lot of researchers, questioning and answering that was made, I realized that when you do what other people cannot do they will actually learn from you faster and also bring more interest in it. So many people that visited my Farm they actually learnt a lot in a new dimension.

This is how I also manage the farm. when I get it to the farm early in the morning with the kids I engage a lot of irrigation practice. Which me last 2 hours or more depending on how fast it works. so this is one thing that also kill agricultural produce right in front of you as a farmer. When you do not have the requirement as a farmer before you step into any type of cropping system it will later affect your crops in bits.

I also have in some partitions the curry plant. Which I always plant year in and year out. Although there is no market for this as such. but I know so many people use it for different food dishes. Some people requested for the curry plant and I gave them as much as I have in my farm. So this is the privilege you have as a farmer when you plant so many crops on the same piece of land but on this note you need to manage them 100% so that you can see the importance and benefits of using the method.

The addition of organic manure is not exception. When you have this in your farm it will also serve as a lot of additional nutrients booster. For a very long time close to 6 months and above. That is why I do not motivate people to go for the chemical fertilizers. Although in some countries you may not have opportunity of easy access to organic manual unless you visit agricultural shops.

It's so great to hear that you pick some crops, like eggplant, because they are uncommonly grown in your area! That sort of diversity, like you highlight, can do wonders not just for your garden or farm, but also be a way to build good community! !BBH

I know mixed farming is good but I have heard that there are some crops you don't mix together while farming them, because the other would suck out all the nutrients, making the other plant to wither and die. I would like to know what to look out for in the type of crops to mix farm

Yes you are right and that is why you need to first of all check out your table which of the crops you like to cultivate at first before you mix other crops together. When you want to go into this type of Farm system you can plant crops like millet or Guinea corn With okra or pepper. It goes along with each other. Crops like Maize๐ŸŒฝ and African spinner is also go along with each other. @ozd
