Two 400 year old coins

Hey, in my breaks from work and compulsive listening to Myslovitz, I still try to pay attention to my passion for numismatics. I'm learning about the coins I've always disliked, namely those minted up to 1850. You can already see great progress. I have already collected a small collection of such disks. I think that getting out of the bubble of German imperial coins has done me good. I now have many more Russian and Polish coins. The next topic will be coins of the Austrian empire, but I'm focusing on Poland for a while. I have purchased several coins recently and would like to show off these acquisitions to you. Today I'm taking two coins to the wallpaper, more specifically, półtorak.

Two półtorak

What is a half-track? It is a coin minted during the reign of Sigismund III Vasa and John Casimir in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The coin represents the value of a grosz and a half, and this is where the name comes from.

One of my 1 and 1/2 grosz dates from 1624 on the other the vintage is illegible. The old coins were minted quite sloppily, and unfortunately time has also done its job here. I think the coins are beautiful. They have an atmosphere, the spirit of old history beats from them. They show history and allow you to get close to it. The coins are 100% original.

They are two small discs, the diameter is only 2 cm. It is a thin coin weighing only 1.2 grams. It is made of wicked sterling silver. On the Obverse is the Coat of Arms of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and the inscriptions “ 3 SIGI 3 D G REX P M D L”. The reverse is decorated with an apple with a cross with the number 24 in the center. What does the number 24 stand for? An interesting fact - it is a value. Someone may say but the denomination is, after all, a grosz and a half - Yes, but in the Commonwealth it was legal to circulate foreign coins with a small denomination. The value refers to the thaler and shows the denomination of 1/24 thaler. The 3 from the obverse was there in the same way, but refers to the Czech grosz, only this time the denomination is 3 grosz. Complicated? Welcome to the world of old European coins. On the reverse we can also find the inscription “MONE NO REG POLO”.

Hej, w przerwach od pracy i nałogowego słuchania Myslovitz, nadal staram się poświęcać uwagę pasji jaką jest numizmatyka. Uczę się na temat monet, których zawsze nie lubiłem, czyli tych wybitych do 1850 roku. Widać już wielkie postępy. Uzbierałem już małą kolekcję takich krążków. Myślę, że wyjście z bańki monet cesarstwa niemieckiego dobrze mi zrobiło. Mam teraz o wiele więcej monet rosyjskich i polskich. Następnym tematem będą monety cesarstwa austriackiego, ale na chwilę skupiam się na Polsce. Zakupiłem ostatnio kilka monet i chciałbym się wam pochwalić tymi nabytkami. Dziś na tapet biorę dwie monety, a dokładniej półtoraki.

Dwa Półtoraki

Czym jest półtorak? Jest to moneta bita za czasów Zygmunta III Wazy oraz Jana Kazimierza na terenie rzeczpospolitej obojga narodów. Moneta reprezentuje wartość półtora grosza i właśnie stąd wzięła się nazwa.

Jeden z moich półtoraków pochodzi z roku 1624 na drugim rocznik jest nieczytelny. Stare monety były bite dosyć niechlujnie, a niestety czas także zrobił tu swoje. Uważam, że monetki są piękne. Mają klimat, bije od nich duch starych dziejów. Pokazują historię i pozwalają się do niej zbliżyć. Monetki są w 100% oryginalne.

Są to dwa niewielkie krążki, średnica to zaledwie 2 cm. Jest to cienka moneta ważąca tylko 1,2 grama. Wykonana jest z podłego srebra próby 375. Na Awersie znajduje się Herb rzeczpospolitej obojga narodów oraz napisy " 3 SIGI 3 D G REX P M D L". Rewers ozdobiony jest jabłkiem z krzyżem z numerem 24 w środku. Co oznacza liczba 24? Ciekawostka - jest to wartość. Ktoś może powiedzieć ale nominał to przecież półtora grosza - Tak, ale w rzeczpospolitej legalny był obieg monet zagranicznych o małym nominale. Wartość odnosi się do talara i pokazuje nominał 1/24 talara. 3 z awersu znalazła się tam w ten sam sposób, ale odnosi się do grosza czeskiego, tylko tym razem nominał to 3 grosze. Skomplikowane? Witam w świecie starych monet europejskich. Na rewersie doszukamy się również napisu "MONE NO REG POLO"
