WE154 - That Terrible Moment In My Life
Compelling reason
Think of a terrible time/event in your life that you survived and made it through. Write about why you made it through, not how - What were your compelling reasons for working through your difficulties. A post of 300+ words is required and use a photo you took personally if possible.
Life has its way of giving us the opposite of what we need. The most difficult and terrible moment of my life was 2017. That was the year I got admitted into the university to study Communication Arts. It was a moment that required celebration without anyone beating a town crier for it.
Instead, the evil wind heard of the good news and blew in something that caused pain. Few days after the news, my dad felt ill. He was diagnosed with heart disease. We spent weeks at the hospital and different kinds of tablets were given to him.
After we returned, he was on drugs but nothing seemed to change. We returned to the hospital, his legs began to swell, walking became difficult and breathing difficulty followed and that was how he breathed his last. It was something that left me devastated and plunged me into despair and grief.
Remembering I have lost someone who was the backbone of the family, coupled with the fact I just gained admission left me in the dark. I found myself asking if I should forfeit my admission and find a job. I questioned so many things because I didn't know how to endure the unexpected pain.
But regardless, I found reasons that ignited my zeal to push through all the difficulties I faced. These reasons guided me through the darkest hours giving me the motivation to keep going forward. These reasons are:
First is the love I received from friends. So many people came through for me with words of encouragement. My boyfriend was there for me and remembering how much confidence my dad had for me, made me realize that giving up is disappointing him. I had to honor these people who are counting on me and be strong for them by pursuing my career.
Also, my dad's death made me realize that life has its way of testing our ability to conquer difficult moments without quitting. The pain left me tapping into my unseen strength, discovering my hidden self. There is no doubt that I faced lots of challenges trying to scale through and graduate. This life struggle helped me discover my purpose in life.
In addition, I have always known that even in the darkest tunnel, there is always light at its end. I had strong hope that things would get better. “Whatever is worth doing at all, is worth doing well.” by Philip Stanhope. This quote helps me remind myself that since I'm working hard to achieve something invaluable, my darkest time will not define my future. I was very optimistic with the knowledge that it takes time and hard work to achieve my goal and make everyone that counted on me proud.
During that moment of devastation, hopelessness and pain. The experience was too far from the word easy but the above reasons gave me that courage to walk through the challenges I faced.
