I almost Got Caught Because of My Phone
There are kinds of jobs that can be very demanding that we don't have a choice. One of them is working in a gas station. It was after my secondary school and the only job rampant around me was filling stations. We all know how busy filling stations can be and how demanding attending to customers can be.
After I was employed, there was a strict warning that employees were to keep their phones in the drawer unless only to be taken out after signing out. My addiction to being active online made it look like it was something impossible. Apart from the danger of using phones in gas stations, the constant flow of customers demanding for fuel and gas. I was assigned to manage the gas station. While I gained experience from that, I was equally tired because I didn't have enough time to carry out lots of activities I had to carry out with my phone which were majorly chatting with my secondary school friends.
At that time, a friend of mine sent me a forex course to study. It became a challenge to me because there was no way I could do two things effectively without lagging behind in one. It was a task for me. Hahaha. Whenever I remember this part, I just laugh. What I used to do then was sneak in like I wanted to go to the restroom, go to the drawer where we all dropped our phones. Pick mine and hide it and go straight to the restroom.
Ask me what I sneaked out to do, just to check messages from friends and drop replies. That beeping notification sound was a rhythmic sound to my ears then. One day I almost got caught, the only thing that saved me was that the person that caught me was my friend who knew when I left for the restroom and came to draw my attention that the manager called for me.
That day was a bad day, the manager dropped in and saw I was not at my duty posts. He saw how customers were queuing to refill gas. He asked of me and heard I was in the restroom. He expected me to be back at light in 3 minutes but I was nowhere to be found and he finally sent for me.
After that narrow escape, I had to come to terms to deviate from such distraction. The onset wasn't easy but I was ready to focus and do my job. I didn't need anyone to advise me that being distracted can cause me to lose the job because the constant asking of me means one thing, "you are not dedicated to this job!"
It was then I understood that I should do what I'm paid for with all diligence and dedication. The nonstop working made me focus again and I had to suggest during one of our meetings for a key to be bought for the drawer so no one would sneak out to make use of his or her phone in secret. They all bought the idea without knowing I was only trying to self myself and work on my distraction. My ability to cope with this current job is as a result of how I was able to shift from my addiction to the digital realm.
You were lucky that day.
Imagine losing a job because of chatting of all things. Makes no sense. Certain things coke first.
Chatting can happen during your break or after your time at the job.
Hahaha. My sister, it was actually a case for me then. I was so addicted to my phone and the funniest part is that what keeps me on the phone is nothing but unnecessary things.
Wow,it's really not an easy thing not press phone in an hour not to talk of a day
Well I understand that it's not a good thing to hold phone in a gas station, it only to protect from harm
Thank God you made that suggestion.
Yeah, the experience wasn't a sweet one but thank God I learnt something from the experience and that lesson is happening me till now.
Ohh thank God you were so lucky. Truth be told it's not easy to cope without phone, I don't pray anything happen to me that would make me stay away with my phone for a long period of time.
It's not easy. I once heard someone say food a friend of everyone. It's one device that we cling to so much.
Am so happy for dear, that you did not lose your job because of chatting.
Be careful next time
