Pic1000- The Property
The photo was taken by @wakeupkitty host of this contest on behalf of @freewritehouse.
Tall grasses dancing in rhythmic sequence with the wind, their dry blades rasping against each other. Hot, dry and hazy wind blowing across the field. Along with it was the faint scent of a deserted land.
Standing alone in a far distance was a farmhouse, with faded paint and its boarded up windows. It had been a wasteland for years. According to rumours in town the farmhouse was haunted, it was believed that something terrible had happened there a long time ago. The locals had whispered of strange sounds always coming from the house at night, and some swore they had seen on different occasions shadows moving in the windows, even though it was clear that nobody lived there.
But I had just recently bought this property because I loved it at first sight and recently I moved into it. Of course I had intentions of starting up a farm as soon as the rain came. A proper retirement plan I had nurtured years ago.
Now I stood in the window overlooking the field, I watched as shadows grew long and deep signalling the sun set. The winds gradually ceased, and a heavy silence engulfed the land. Then, it came a distant, mournful howl from a distance filling the air. One wouldn't think it was coming from the direction of the farmhouse, at first glance.
The howling gradually grew louder and louder, like a cacophony or mournful wails. Till the darkness fell on the land. Then there it was, something was moving through the grasses, quickly heading straight for the farmhouse. As it drew closer, it became clear that it was a figure, running with incredible speed but I couldn't tell what it was. But just a figure too tall, too thin, and too dark to be human. It was heading in my direction, the farmhouse. I watched through the window scared, waiting for it to emerge and stop but then I watched as it disappeared through the walls into the house.
A cold wind blew through the tall grasses, carrying with it a terrible, despairing cry. And then, silence fell once more. Now, I was tainted with a sense of fear and dread.
I should have believed the rumours. How would I survive the night alone in this haunted house?
Sounds like my wolves. You have nothing to fear. Just do not start running.
🍀❤️
I will try not to be scared. 😊

Embrace and the house will keep you safe. The soil must be extremely fertile after all those years.
