I like it how they have added another story to the building on the left. It does not contradict the general style of the building and apartments like that command a good price. They're in the city center but relatively quiet and there's plenty of space for patios and/or large balconies.

The type legal entity that owns apartment buildings in Finland is a special type of corporation called a housing corporation. The governance is like in any corporation. Each series of shares entitles the owner to possessing a certain unit to be occupied by the owner him/herself or to be rented out. A shareholders' meeting elects a board responsible for overseeing day-to-day management and accounting, which a management company is usually hired to do, and renovation projects. This is a very good arrangement because there is sufficient clarity as to the rights and responsibilities of the owners of the apartments regarding the common spaces and all the structures of the buildings and property lots.

One of the regular venues of our go club meetings was in the building on the right (partially covered by the tree). Before Covid-19, the pub already had difficult times because the space had to be closed due to a pipe leak and the resultant water damage. The place was closed for months in the spring of 2020.

The city center ends at the end of this street where the hill begins. This city is unlikely grow too much beyond the population of 120,000 or so any time soon. The only scenario in which that happens if the Helsinki Urban area becomes prohibitively expensive and the people living there start looking for cheaper alternatives within a reasonable distance (less than an hour from the outer limits of it).

Anyone who can work remotely at least 2-3 days per week should consider moving away from Greater Helsinki. You get twice the house for 2/3 of the price here compared to the municipalities on the outskirts of Greater Helsinki. 60-70 minutes spent commuting to work one-way is tolerable on a couple of days a week.

The main street towards the south. Much more of the leaves will be on the ground 2-3 weeks from now.

At home I found this little thing on the couch next to the door to my office.
