A Wasteland ......
During the Great War of Liberation, the martyred freedom fighters were brutally killed and buried in mass graves by Razakar Al Badr in different parts of the country, those mass graves are called slaughterhouses.
The Slaughterhouse Memorial is located in Rajshahi University. It was inaugurated on December 21, 2004. Wasteland Memorial is located at the western end of Rajshahi University, next to the Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall. The height of the monument is 42 feet, standing on a round cement altar raised from the flat ground.
During the long nine months of liberation war, hundreds of innocent people from different areas of Rajshahi were arrested and brutally killed here. This monument was built to preserve their memory. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Khalek recommended to the government in 1998. Then the next Vice-Chancellor Professor M Saidur Rahman Khan built a memorial here on 16 December 1999. The cost of construction of the monument is estimated at two and a half crore rupees.Out of this, 84 lakh rupees have been spent on the construction work of the first level. A 42-foot-tall monument towers over a circular cement altar rising from the plain. The monument belongs to the Shaheed Memorial Museum of Rajshahi University. Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall was used by Pakistani invaders as their cantonment throughout the liberation war.
planted on the side of this wasteland. It is forbidden to enter the altar with shoes to show respect to the martyrs. Being a student of Rajshahi University, I and my friends sometimes go to see wasteland.
As a result of the sacrifice of the martyrs, today we keep the idea of freedom in our heart and show our last respect and feel the joy as a free citizen.
The place is a very significant place for every Bangladeshi.I am leaving here today, I hope everyone will be fine. Take care dear hivers, see you soon......
