Extraordinary burning worm. / Extraordinario gusano quemador.

How's it going! How are you my friends? I am taking advantage of the sunny afternoon in my garden to take some pictures of a striking burner worm.

Que tal! Cómo están mis amigos? Estoy aprovechando la tarde soleada en mi jardín para tomar algunas fotografías a un llamativo gusano quemador.

Do you know this type of worms? I tell you a little about them. Well, they are actually the larvae of some types of moths.

Ustedes conocen este tipo de gusanos? Les cuento un poquito de ellos. Pues en realidad son las larvas de algunos tipos de polillas.

The moths lay their eggs on logs or under the leaves of some plants. When the eggs open, hundreds of small larvae are born that at first live in groups and then grow apart, each one on its way becoming a caterpillar with the hairy appearance that you can see in the photos.

Las polillas depositan sus huevos en troncos o debajo de las hojas de algunas plantas. Cuando los huevos se abren nacen centenares de pequeñas larvas que al principio viven en grupos y luego creciendo se van separando, cada uno por su camino llegando a ser una oruga con el aspecto peludo que pueden notar en las fotos

But it is not all. When this hairy caterpillar reaches the adult stage, it metamorphoses into a moth. The poor thing survives no more than a week as a moth, laying its eggs for the next generation.

Pero no es todo. Cuando está oruga peluda llega al estadio adulto, hace su metamorfosi trasformandose en una polilla. La pobre sobrevive no más que una semana como polilla, depositando sus huevos para la generación suseciva.

But why do they call it burner worm? For those who don't know, remember what I'm telling you now.
Never touch one of them!! Well, her beautiful hair is not soft. They are particular hairs that are connected to glands that release a poisonous substance causing very annoying allergic irritations.
Nothing serious, but the same is not pleasant.

Pero por qué lo llaman gusano quemador? Para quien no lo sabe, acuérdese de lo que le digo ahora.
Nunca toquen a uno de ellos!! Pues su hermoso pelito no es suavecito. Son pelos particulares que están conectados a glándulas que sueltan una sustancia venenosa causando irritaciones alérgicas muy fastidiosas.
Nada de grave, pero lo mismo no es placentero.

Here in Argentina, we directly call it "burner" or "furry cat" and it is considered a real plague.

Acá en Argentina, lo llamamos directamente "quemador" o "gata peluda" y es considerado una verdadera plaga.
