REX, my doggy nephew. REX, mi sobrino perruno. (ENG/ESP)

Yes, today I want to introduce you to my nephew Rex who became our first doggy family member and since he arrived at home he conquered everyone's heart.

My sister and her family, made up of my brother-in-law and my two nephews, about 9 years ago decided to integrate a puppy, furry and playful, into their family, which they named: REX.

Rex is a male Golden Retriever, tender, friendly, affectionate and calm, with his characteristic golden coat, his determined, precise, long stride that makes itself felt and steals glances. Like all of his breed, he is quiet and does not bark much.

He seemed to be very happy with his family, they took him everywhere and always gave him lots of love, however, like many in my country Venezuela, my sister and her family made the decision to migrate. It was a difficult decision for all of them because in this new stage in their lives, taking him with them would not be the best option. At that moment they asked me to take care of my doggy nephew, while they settled down and sent for him.

I responsibly told them that although I loved him very much, I didn't know how to take care of him, so, as their plans were to send for him when they settled down, they left him with the neighbors whose business is to take care of pets while their owners travel or can't take care of them. He had already been with them on several occasions, so that was an advantage.

The immigrant's life was not easy at the beginning, since they could only cover their own needs and where they lived they did not allow pets, so they had to look for another home to keep them there.

At first we agreed to take him on Fridays and let him stay in the house. When he arrived he would run all over the house, go into rooms, ride on furniture, scamper into the kitchen, exploring his house or... looking for his family.

My mom and dad were very fond of him, my daughter and I took care of him and played with him, but as the months went by, we realized that he missed his people. He would no longer run in excitedly, but would lie down in the middle of the room with his sad little eyes.

Seeing this situation, my brother-in-law talked to his family who live in a small house outside the capital and who Rex knew.

My sister @yamilar04 offered to move him, so one weekend they picked him up where he was being cared for and headed to his new home.

It was several hours on the road and they tell me that he was lying quietly in the back seat the whole trip. Finally they arrived and when he saw my brother-in-law's dad, he started barking and wagging his tail.

Since that day, he has lived in a country house, in a natural and quiet environment, although hot, that's why he had to be shaved completely when he arrived. Rex was a daddy and is currently living with one of his puppies. My brother-in-law's family loves him and takes care of him, they provide him with what he needs with the money my brother-in-law deposits for his expenses.

I always ask about Rexito, as we call him affectionately, and they tell us that when the avocados fall, he runs around to pick them up in the yard.

I think that even though he is not with his initial family, the best decision was to take him to his new family.

About a year and a half ago, my nephews decided to adopt another puppy and now I have another doggy nephew that I know only from pictures.

Thank you for making it this far and reading the story.
