Estoy muy feliz de contarles a los aficionados de la buena música, que éste es mi primer post en la comunidad este año. Quiero compartir con ustedes una de mis bandas favoritas de nu metal, Deftones, ha evolucionado de manera increíble. Claro, comenzaron siendo conocidos por su energía explosiva en el nu metal, pero hoy en día, han expandido su paleta musical incorporando elementos dream pop, trip hop, shoegaze, post-metal, incursionando también como metal alternativo o rock alternativo.
He creado este top 5 de mis canciones favoritas del grupo originario de Sacramento, California, formado en 1988, hoy en día está formado por Chino Moreno (vocalista), Stephen Carpenter (guitarrista), Abe Cunningham (baterista) y Frank Delgado (samplers), el bajista original de la banda era Chi Cheng quien sufrió un horrible accidente y estuvo en coma en 2008, su fallecimiento fue el 13 de abril de 2013 (42 años).Entonces los invito a explorar este top 5 de mis canciones favoritas de Deftones. 5) “Minerva” (‘Deftones’, 2003)
Para mí este single no suena nu metal, es más rock alternativo con toques shoegaze que le añaden una dimensión única, manteniendo esa esencia que tanto nos gusta de la banda, es el tercer tema de Deftones del álbum homónimo de 11 canciones. Es una canción dedicada a todas esas mujeres maduras que hablan con firmeza y claridad, mujeres inteligentes, mujeres que cantan como diosas, es un tributo a la fortaleza y la sabiduría que las caracterizan. Es el primer sencillo de su cuarto álbum de estudio. Recuerdo que esa canción cuando fue publicada estaba trabajando como productor en el programa radial "Mundo Rock" que se transmitía por Jeomar 105.1 fm en Punta de Mata, Monagas-Venezuela.
¿Y qué hace que este tema se destaque tanto en mi lista personal? La respuesta está en esa melodía cautivadora de la guitarra y la atmósfera envolvente que logran crear. Por estas razones, ocupa el codiciado puesto número 5 en mi ranking personal de canciones favoritas.

4 ) “Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)” (‘Around The Fur’), 1997
Cada vez que dejo que este tema acaricie mis oídos, experimento una sensación de relajación que es difícil de describir con palabras. Este sencillo se desprende de su segundo álbum de estudio de la agrupación californiana. Es un audio fresco con batería de golpes impecables y sin duda el sonido de acordes disonantes de la guitarra de Stephen Carpenter que le dan a la melodía una textura única y cautivadora.
Es una canción para alguien que no quiere estar en un sitio tóxico y que se quiere ir de allí y estar muy lejos de la incertidumbre, si quieren escapar de la rutina, escuchen este tema y sabrán lo que estoy diciendo. Escapa con tus amigos a una fiesta o reunión donde te valoren. Con este video de esta canción fue que conocí a Deftones en el año 1997, era tan solo un niño cuando los vi por primera vez en el canal musical Mtv.
Aquí estoy, años después, compartiendo esta experiencia con todos ustedes. ¿Han tenido alguna vez una canción que los transporte a otro lugar, que los haga desear escapar de todo por un momento? 3)“You've Seen the Butcher ” (‘Diamond Eyes’, 2010)
Comienza con un riff denso de guitarra y con juego batería de Abe Cunningham es sin duda que este álbum tiene una potencia enorme de sabor de metal y que acompaña con un gran video muy llamativo con chicas extremadamente sexys, pero lo que realmente me dejó boquiabierto fue la lluvia de sangre que, de manera surrealista, salpica a todos en una antigua biblioteca es como si la gravedad hubiera decidido tomarse un descanso, haciendo que los libros se vean inestables.
La batería y el teclado utilizados en la producción del video fueron subastados para recaudar fondos destinados al tratamiento de Chi Cheng, uno de los miembro de la banda, quien en ese momento estaba hospitalizado, es por eso que elegí este pegajoso sencillo en memoria del fallecido bajista.

2 ) “Ohms” (‘Ohms’, 2020)
Este sencillo es del noveno álbum de estudio de la agrupación californiana y el último track del disco. Es muy al estilo Deftones cargado de rock alternativo con rasguños de dream pop, Este tema en particular es como un soplo de aire fresco, una experiencia auditiva que se despliega con la maestría característica de Deftones.
La voz inconfundible de Chino Moreno se convierte en el hilo conductor de esta melodía, guiándonos a través de paisajes sonoros que van desde lo enérgico hasta lo etéreo. La letra nos invita a reflexionar sobre los estragos que sufre nuestra querida Tierra, dañada y vulnerable. Es un llamado de atención, una invitación a abrir los ojos y enfrentar la realidad de lo que está ocurriendo a nuestro alrededor.

1 )“Change (In The House Of Flies)” (‘White Pony’, 2000)
El tema más comercial de la banda y nunca podría faltar en cada una de sus presentaciones en directo, recuerdo que el pasado 7 de febrero del año 2007 la agrupación se presentó en el Poliedro de Caracas, Venezuela en donde estuve presente en su único concierto en el país.
Es sin duda que la calidad de voz que tiene Moreno en vivo es otra cosa fenomenal y la adrenalina que transmite en vivo, cada expresión y algunas ocasiones el cantante decía algunas palabras en español expresando su agradecimiento por el público presente. El crecimiento de cada individuo es algo importante es como una metáfora de la transformación como va surgiendo su vida personal.
Ahora, hablemos del video que acompaña a esta joya musical. Nos sumerge en una fiesta al más puro estilo roquero, evocando recuerdos del legendario video de "Whiskey in the Jar" de Metallica. Es una celebración visual que complementa perfectamente la energía contagiosa de la canción.

To me this single doesn't sound nu metal, it's more alternative rock with shoegaze touches that add a unique dimension, keeping that essence that we love so much about the band, it's the third Deftones track from the 11 song album of the same name. It is a song dedicated to all those mature women who speak with firmness and clarity, intelligent women, women who sing like goddesses, it is a tribute to the strength and wisdom that characterize them. It is the first single from her fourth studio album. I remember that when this song was released I was working as a producer in the radio program "Mundo Rock" which was broadcasted on Jeomar 105.1 fm in Punta de Mata, Monagas-Venezuela.
And what makes this song stand out so much in my personal list? The answer lies in that captivating guitar melody and the enveloping atmosphere they manage to create. For these reasons, it occupies the coveted number 5 position in my personal ranking of favorite songs.

4 ) “Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)” (‘Around The Fur’), 1997
Every time I let this track caress my ears, I experience a sense of relaxation that is hard to describe in words. This single is taken from the Californian group's second studio album. It's a cool audio with impeccable drum beats and no doubt the dissonant chord sound of Stephen Carpenter guitar that gives the melody a unique and captivating texture.
It's a song for someone who doesn't want to be in a toxic place and wants to get out of there and be far away from uncertainty, if you want to escape the routine, listen to this track and you'll know what I'm saying. Escape with your friends to a party or gathering where you are valued. It was with this video of this song that I met Deftones in 1997, I was just a kid when I saw them for the first time on Mtv music channel.
Here I am, years later, sharing this experience with all of you. Have you ever had a song that transports you to another place, that makes you want to escape from everything for a moment?
