Do you remember when, for the first time in history, the HiveCuba witness stopped signing blocks? Well, that time it was 5, but add two more and while it can get to more than that, let's get to the cause. At least this time they didn't steal my laptop.

The short story, as I don't want to make it too long or boringly filled with technicalities, is that the server froze. Like when your Windows gives you a blue screen and you don't know what to do.

There is something that almost always gets dizzy, as we usually say, and from time to time it needs a little maintenance. That something is the script that reports the price of Hive; each node has one, and it needs to be updated constantly. We do it every hour, and yesterday we had already gone a whole day without doing it.

As always happens, I logged into the server and restarted the process in charge of it, but things didn't go as usual. Instead, shutting down that process took up too much memory for a reason I don't know, and basically, other processes like block signing couldn't be performed. That's how I received the notification that we stopped signing two blocks. I tried to unblock it, but the terminal didn't respond, so I contacted @privex support, but they don't have access to any service right now to help me with a restart or something similar from their side. Right now, they are experiencing outages of several of their services due to a voltage problem they had. Surely their electric company is a branch of ETECSA.

Come on, I chose the worst time to tinker with the server. What I love about @privex is their support and obviously that they accept $HBD, but I think it's time to look for a backup for the server or move. I can only wait for the server to magically respond or for them to finish restoring their services. So I will keep you updated, and don't be alarmed if you see the HiveCuba witness disabled; better that than continuing to lose blocks.

I'll see what I do after this, not just for the witness but also for the P2P bot, since we use the same service. What is certain is that I will take the opportunity to update the Witness node to the latest version as soon as I regain access to it.

In the meantime, I took on the task of making this post on Inleo to see if they have improved, given that I have been creating some threads lately. Not much, at least in terms of design and accessibility. I'm not a designer, but there is a lot that can be improved here to make interaction with the site much easier, and not just in the editor.

Hay algo que casi siempre se marea, como solemos decir, y de vez en cuando le toca un pequeño mantenimiento. Ese algo es el script que reporta el precio de Hive, cada nodo tiene uno y es algo que debe actualizarse constantemente. Nosotros lo hacemos cada hora y el día de ayer ya llevábamos un día entero sin hacerlo.

Como siempre que pasa, entre al servidor y reinicie el proceso que se encarga de ello, pero la cosa no fue como de costumbre. En su lugar, el apagado de ese proceso ocupo demasiada memoria por una razón que desconozco y básicamente otros procesos como la firma de bloques no pudieron realizarse. Así fue como recibí la notificación de que dejamos de firmar dos bloques. Busque destrabar aquello, pero la terminal no respondía, así que contacte con el soporte de @privex, pero no tienen acceso a ningún servicio ahora mismo como para ayudarme con un reinicio o algo parecido desde su lado. Ahora mismo se encuentran sufriendo la caída de distintos de sus servicios por un problema de voltaje que tuvieron. Seguro su compañía eléctrica es una sucursal de ETECSA.

Vamos, que elegí el peor momento para ponerte a trastear el servidor. Lo que me encanta de @privex es su soporte y obviamente que acepten $HBD, pero creo que ya toca buscar un backup para el servidor o mudarnos. Solo me queda esperar a que el servidor responda mágicamente o que ellos terminen de levantar sus servicios. Así que los mantendré actualizados y no se alarmen si ven el testigo de HiveCuba deshabilitado, mejor eso que seguir perdiendo bloques.

Ya veré que hago luego de esto, no solo por el testigo, sino por el bot P2P, pues utilizamos el mismo servicio. Lo que sí es seguro es que aprovecharé para actualizar el nodo Testigo a la última versión, apenas vuelva a tener acceso a él.

De paso me di a la tarea de hacer este post en Inleo para ver que sí han mejorado, dado que he estado creando algunos threads últimamente. Como tal no mucho, al menos en diseño y accesibilidad. No soy diseñador, pero hay mucho que se puede mejorar por aquí para hacer mucho más sencilla la interacción con el sitio y no solo en el editor.
