On January 14, as has been the tradition since 1856, the procession of the image of the Divine Shepherdess (Divina Pastora) took place once again, which is carried on shoulders from the neighboring town of Santa Rosa to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Barquisimeto, in a route of about 7.5 kilometers, a little more than 4 miles, and which usually takes about 6 hours.

This event belonging to Catholicism, gathers a large crowd of people, according to local authorities, this year between 2.7 to 3 million people came from all corners of the country, as well as from abroad, which makes it, as I have described in previous posts and is public knowledge, the third largest Marian event in the world, only behind the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico and the Virgin of Fatima in Portugal.

As usual, I also joined this year this centenary devotional show that has only been interrupted in the years 2021 and 2022 by the distancing and confinement measures aimed at preventing the spread of the pandemic that hit the whole humanity since the beginning of 2020.

Contrary to what one might think due to the impressive crowd that attends, the procession takes place with practically no public order problems, even though the number of participants exponentially exceeds the number of police and other security forces that have been deployed in the city since a few days before to protect the integrity of the citizens and their belongings.

As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.

El pasado 14 de Enero se realizó una vez mas, como ha sido tradición desde el año 1856, la procesión de la imagen de la Divina Pastora, que es trasladada en hombros desde la vecina población de Santa Rosa hasta la Catedral Metropolitana de Barquisimeto, en un recorrido de unos 7,5 kilómetros, un poco mas de 4 millas, y que suele tardar alrededor de unas 6 horas.

Este evento perteneciente al catolicismo, congrega una gran multitud de personas, que de acuerdo a las autoridades locales, este año acudieron entre 2,7 a 3 millones de personas, provenientes de todos los rincones del país, así como del extranjero, lo que lo convierte, como he descrito en posts anteriores y es del conocimiento público, el tercer evento mariano mas grande del mundo, tan solo por detrás de la Virgen de Guadalupe en México y la Virgen de Fátima en Portugal.

Como ha sido habitual, también me uní este año a esta centenaria muestra de devoción que tan solo se ha visto interrumpida en los años 2021 y 2022 por las medidas de distanciamiento y confinamiento destinadas a evitar la propagación de la pandemia que azotó a la humanidad entera desde principios de 2020.

Al contrario de lo que pudiera pensarse por la impresionante multitud que acude, la procesión transcurre sin prácticamente problemas de orden público aún cuando el número de asistentes supera exponencialmente al de efectivos policiales y de otras fuerzas de seguridad que se despliegan en la ciudad desde unos días antes para resguardar la integridad de los ciudadanos y sus pertenencias.
