Architectural Jewels of Maracay: State Government Headquarters [ENG/SPA]
Greetings, dear friends of the Architecture+Design community! I am pleased to be here for the first time and share with all of you a series of posts about the architecture of my beloved city of Maracay, in the state of Aragua, Venezuela.
¡Saludos, estimados amigos de la comunidad Architecture+Design! Me complace estar aquí por primera vez y compartir con todos ustedes una serie de posts sobre la arquitectura de mi amada ciudad de Maracay, en el estado de Aragua, Venezuela.
Today I want to talk about a very special building for me: the Corpoindustria Headquarters Building, currently the headquarters of the Governor's Office of Aragua State. This building was completed in 1974 by the architect José Puig. It is special to me because my mother and grandmother worked there, which gave me the opportunity to walk its corridors on many occasions.
Hoy quiero hablar sobre una edificación muy especial para mí: el Edificio Sede Corpoindustria, actualmente la sede de la Gobernación del Estado Aragua. Este edificio fue terminado en 1974 por el arquitecto José Puig. Es especial para mí porque mi mamá y mi abuela trabajaron allí, lo que me brindó la oportunidad de recorrer sus pasillos en muchas ocasiones.
The building is located in the north of the city and is part of a complex that also includes buildings such as the Mayor's Office, the Palace of Justice and the Military Technical Academy.
El edificio se encuentra al norte de la ciudad y forma parte de un complejo en el que también se encuentran edificaciones como la sede de la Alcaldía, el Palacio de Justicia y la Academia Técnica Militar.
A feature that deeply calls my attention about the architectural design of this building is that it was inspired by the logo of Corpoindustria, which already existed at that time. This can be seen in the east and west facades of the building, which feature hexagonal plates that protect the building from solar incidence and make it worthy of being one of the most emblematic works of contemporary architecture in Maracay.
Una característica que llama profundamente mi atención sobre el diseño arquitectónico de este edificio es que se inspiró en el logotipo de Corpoindustria, que ya existía en ese momento. Esto se puede ver en las fachadas este y oeste del edificio, que presentan placas hexagonales que protegen la edificación de las incidencias solares y lo hacen merecedor de ser una de las obras de arquitectura contemporánea más emblemáticas de Maracay.
The creative and innovative style of the building, with asymmetrical facades and cantilevers on some floors, gives it a dynamic touch that can be appreciated in the shape of the structure. The building has a basement and a two-story ground floor.
The hexagonal slabs on the east and west sides are made of clean reinforced concrete, a somewhat brutalist style, and have incisions that create numerous triangles that reflect the shape of the Corpoindustria logo. To give you an idea, I share with you the logo of the corporation so that you can better appreciate the similarity.
El estilo creativo e innovador del edificio, con fachadas asimétricas y voladizos en algunos pisos, le da un toque dinámico que se puede apreciar en la forma de la estructura. El edificio cuenta con un sótano y una planta baja a dos alturas.
Las placas hexagonales que se encuentran en los lados este y oeste están hechas de concreto armado en obra limpia, un estilo un tanto brutalista, y cuentan con incisiones que crean numerosos triángulos que reflejan la forma del logotipo de Corpoindustria. Para que se hagan una idea, les comparto el logotipo de la corporación para que puedan apreciar mejor la similitud.
For me it is impressive that the design of a building is based on an existing logo, surely there are many buildings in the world that have been born from a logo, in my case I do not know of another place that has been built that way and having this one in my city makes me feel proud, besides this building allowed José Puig to win the national architecture award for the innovation that this building represented for the year of its construction.
Para mí es impresionante que el diseño de un edificio se base en un logo existente, seguramente habrá en el mundo muchas edificaciones que han nacido de un logo, en mi caso no sé de otro lugar que haya sido construido de esa manera y tener este en mi ciudad me hace sentirme orgullosa, además de que este edificio le permitió a José Puig, ganar el premio nacional de arquitectura por la innovación que representaba esta edificación para el año de su construcción.
At present the building is not in the best possible condition, it has lost some of its luster and essence and the gardens that adorned it are not what they used to be, I hope that, at some point, the agencies in charge, can recover this beautiful structure and return it to its former splendor.
En la actualidad el edificio no se encuentra en el mejor estado posible, ha perdido parte de su brillo y esencia y los jardines que le adornaban no son lo que solían ser, espero que, en algún momento, los organismos encargados, puedan recuperar esta bella estructura y devolverle su esplendor de antes.
Undoubtedly, my city is full of great architectural jewels, which I want to show you little by little, even being considered the garden city of Venezuela for its beautiful landscapes, this valley also boasts of having a great architectural wealth.
Sin duda que mi ciudad está llena de grandes joyas de la arquitectura, que quiero ir mostrándoles poco a poco, aun siendo considerada la ciudad jardín de Venezuela por sus hermosos paisajes, este valle también hace gala de tener una gran riqueza arquitectónica.

As an architecture lover you will know that this has always been one of my favorite buildings in my hometown. Since I was a child it has been inevitable for me to pass by and ignore it. Its design is simply stunning and different in a city that could be somewhat monotonous in terms of buildings. I'm not even sure I've seen any other exaggerated designs so far. I'm glad to discover that you also like to appreciate architecture as I do, we definitely look like brothers. In this community there is a rule regarding the amount of words that should be used to publish a post, but don't worry, the first time I published it happened to me the same way, but the good friends here helped me and explained it well. I loved your video and images, bravo!...
Undoubtedly, this building stands out in Maracay, I think that before the Sindoni Tower, this was a particular building in the city and reference for many, I remember growing up in the corridors of Corpoindustria and I can assure you that inside (at that time), it was as impressive as its exterior.
Not to mention the movie theater and other beauties that this building had, somehow it hurts me a little to see the neglect in which it is today and that is why I wish that the entities in charge can soon focus on restoring it.
An iconic building in the city of Maracay. I who studied the university stage in the area of Las Delicias could appreciate this work every day for about 5 years in a row, plus other opportunities when I went to the north of the city.

Ah, so you had the opportunity to see this building many times while you were on your way to the university and many others nearby that also represent an architectural jewel for the Maracayeros.
I was looking a lot for that picture, there were surely more, but I did not find them, I remember that my mom was always very proud of that building and always when we had to take models to school, we used to choose Corpoindustria as a model.

Ah, entonces tuviste la oportunidad de ver muchas veces este edificio mientras te dirigías a la universidad y muchos otros que se encuentran cerca que también representan una joya arquitectónica para los Maracayeros.
Estuve buscando mucho esa fotografía, seguro existían más, pero no las encontré, recuerdo que mi mamá siempre estaba muy orgullosa de ese edificio y siempre cuando debíamos llevar maquetas a la escuela, solíamos escoger Corpoindustria como modelo.

The trees, as in the whole city play an important role, that is why we are considered the garden city of Venezuela.

I had the opportunity while at the university to visit these facilities to do a maintenance work of Internet cabling, the truth is that I did not know the history and how interesting it is to know that there is much behind this architectural work, it makes us value more what we have in our state of Aragua, which by the way is good to see it already with so many years out.
That's right my dear friend, in reality Aragua in general is full of immense architectural wealth and we owe that to a great extent to the government of Gómez, who chose Maracay as his city to live in and this led to the creation of infrastructures that still exist today.
This building is a sample of the great contemporary work in terms of architecture that was being developed in Venezuela in the 70s.

Hi @maitt87 the few times I've been to your beautiful city has been for a short time and to make a specific view, so I've missed the architectural beauties of Maracay. I will take it into account. We have so many architectural gems in our country, don't we? I loved this post, I agree with you, very ingenious that structure. It looks important.
