What Is GHAWG?

#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

🏍️ Earlier, independent journalist Aníbal Rivera had interviewed people at the wrong end of crime. One of these people, oddly enough, was Emilio Ibáñez, himself a gang leader whose daughter was killed by one of the new wave of illegal aliens (the term written into countless pages of legislation nationwide) known in 2028 Chicago as the New Marielitos. In this zapfic, we see Rivera interview one of these so-called New Marielitos. Even if a journalist is totally biased in favor of some agenda or other, the journalist should still cover all sides of an issue in a fair manner. We see Rivera doing this.

🏍️ This is the first zapfic entry where Felix Legion names are used in conversation with outsiders. Until then, the names had been used internally by the crew riding with David Guardia. It's also a reminder of the 3 most used Felix Legion names: "Fonzie" for Lindsay Etxeberria, "Shieldmaiden" for Rhonda Bella Guardia, and "Templar" for David. Although they are unable to keep a low profile, the members of Felix Legion still do their best to keep anonymous.

🏍️ As one of the major cities in the United States, Chicago has its share of societal ills, amount them crime. With the arrival of the New Marielitos in the early 2020s, the nature of crime had changed, and even the predators among Chicago's people were findig themselves to be prey for some of these New Marielitos. This is what it took for the crime problem in Chicago to come to a head. The soft-on-crime political leaders of Chicago didn't help matters.

🏍️ Even among casual observers, some motorcycle clubs are more famous than others. The Mongols had a prominent place in Rat Bike thanks to the characters Harry Hoqualogue and the uncanny Manny Rey. Perhaps the only motorcycle club more famous than The Mongols is the Hell's Angels. Felix Legion, on the other hand, is nowhere near like those motorcycle clubs. As David Guardia himself notes, it's just the 7 people (David, Rhonda Bella Guardia, and Lindsay; plus Hank Marchenko, Frank Marchenko, Sanjay Rampersad, and Lionel Odunsi).
🏍️ As for the rest of Felix Legion, Hank is "Nitrous"; Frank is "Rothbard"; Sanjay is "Triumph"; and Lionel is "Quartermaster". However, Lionel can make a good case for switching his Felix Legion from "Quartermaster" (because he was handling lodging arrangements for them all) to "Finn" (because he's a big-time fan of the character from the Star Wars sequel trilogy released through the 2010s).

🏍️ Had this taken place in an earlier period in history, it's very likely that the Chicago Police Department would have cracked down on a spontaneous city-wide march through the streets. Things are different in the 2020s, and unexpected alliances are forming thanks to circumstances beyond their control. Normally, and probably true right now in 2024, CPD is aligned with City Hall. By the time the calendar turns to 2028, CPD cannot keep its alignment with City Hall. This is represented by Lieutenant Terry Leo of CPD Auxiliary running for mayor.

🏍️ Given that Emilio Ibáñez is a gang leader responsible for much "mischief" in Chicago for many years (up to and likely including killings both deliberate as well as accidental), it would make sense that what goes around comes around and he's on the receiving end of violent crime. It would also make sense that Mrs. Hernandez would wish ill to this tormentor of many Chicagoans. Instead, Mrs. Hernandez "loves her enemies" as commanded by The Lord in the Gospels of the New Testament Bible and displays a stoicism worthy of Marcus Aurelius.

We followed the "L" for the Green Line until we reached 63rd Street. Along the way we rode past red lights. When people saw Lt. Leo with me at the front they began to cheer. We could tell people wanted transformational change.

🏍️ The only reason Felix Legion was allowed to ride past red traffic lights was because Lieutenant Terry Leo was riding at the head of Felix Legion with David Guardia.
🏍️ As for the people cheering Lieutenant Leo, this itself is a sign of the major changes Chicago will undergo in 2028 and beyond. Perhaps not for real, but definitely in the world of The GHAWG Universe.

🏍️ This is the first sign of change in the life of gang leader Emilio Ibáñez. Mrs. Hernandez is foreshadowing a change in Emilio Ibáñez' destiny. Other such signs will appear in later zapfic entries.

Felix Legion, plus Lieutenant Terry Leo, found the area near the Obama Presidential Library where elements of the Black Bloc Brigade were massing. Similar to Lindsay's people we ran into in Portland, we saw they didn't fear CPD.

🏍️ This zapfic entry is meant as a reminder of the situation David Guardia was able to avoid when Our Heroes were stopped just as they were going to exit Portland, Oregon, US. The black bloc brigade is at home in Portland, and it has counless cells nationwide to wreak havoc on civilized society at a moment's notice from their paymasters (because it takes money to get organized). For a few years in the 2020s, support for the local police was down in the dumps. That made it easy for far-left groups to have their way over their uniformed foes.

🏍️ The combination of losing her baby to gang crime and an untenable situation due to the rapid influx of the New Marielitos is causing native Chicagoans to reevalute their relationship with city goverment as with each other.

🏍️ Violence is nothing new for the gangs led by Emilio Ibáñez and Luther Jackson. However, what is new is the Chicago gangs joining forces to combat a greater threat to their way of life not just as gang leaders but also as Chicagoans. While this is not on the same plane as the existential battle the people of Wakanda have versus the intergalactic might of Thanos, it's still a big deal for the people of Chicago.

🏍️ One reason the far-left activists who form elements of the black bloc brigade act with impunity is because they don't see themselves as being restricted by laws. This belief is made even worse by local officials nationwide who actually align with the goals of the black bloc brigade. In places dominated by those sorts of local officials, police response is muted or ordered to be non-existent. As a result, law enforcement officers and police in these cities and towns feel themselves shackled by their governments and find themselves fighting with one hand behind their backs. However, the gangs of Chicago-- already outlaws by nature-- don't feel restrained in how they act. Just as game knows game, outlaws know outlaws, and outlaws know what to expect. On this day, it's as if the gangs have the green light to knock sense into the black bloc brigade; almost like Batman.

🏍️ On this day, the Chicago Police Department had the unexpected good fortune to be under the protection of the gangs by Emilio Ibáñez, Luther Jackson and the rest of the gangs of Chicago. The only skulls getting cracked on this day would be those for elements of the black bloc brigade.

Story Arc So Far

With Felix Legion having completed its ride along Route 66 in Chicago, Illinois, US, David Guardia and crew find themselves in the middle of a civic uprising unlike any covered by news media in decades. Independent journalist Aníbal Rivera was already in Chicago covering the origins of this uprising.

With the Route 66 storyline concluded, Act 7 comes to a close and Interlude 4 begins immediately. Interlude 4 takes place in just 1 day, but it's a day featuring history in the making.
