A visit to Dellawa, a beautiful environment bordering the Sinharaja Reserve.

Hello my fellow Hivers,

Hello friends, how are you? I hope you all have a great weekend. After a long time I got an opportunity today to make a content. About a week ago, I had the opportunity to reach Dellawa village, a beautiful village located in the southern province of Sri Lanka. Dellawa village is located near Neluwa, another unique village in Sri Lanka. Dellawa village is high above sea level. Various crops were seen throughout this village, which is surrounded by several hills. A friend of mine, who is close to Galle, where I live, bought a large piece of land in this Dellawa village and cultivates it in various ways. Therefore, I received an invitation from him to reach that land in the village through that friend. Accordingly, I and two other friends joined this trip.

Dellawa village is located at a distance of about 80 kilometers from Galle city. Although the infrastructure in Dellawa village is very minimal, the people get to see a beautiful environment that they need to live. However, rainfall is seen here regularly. In addition, the flood risk is high in Dellawa village, which has a temperate climate, because it is located close to the branches of gin river.

I have not traveled around this area before so I do not know the names of the mountain ranges. But because Dellawa village is located on the border of Sri Lanka's famous rain forest, Sinharaja forest, it can be mentioned that this is Sinharaja mountain ranges. It was possible to get more evidence about it from the nearby villagers.

It is an opportunity to enjoy our life beautifully in a situation where the surrounding environment is constantly covered with fog. We cannot see such opportunities in the area where we live, but we can imagine that life is so beautiful when these opportunities arise for us. My friend's land was located about three kilometers from Dellawa junction. Therefore, there was no shop to buy any kind of food or other items in the area where the land was located. Therefore, you have to come to Dellawa Junction to get those things.

About a year ago, my friend tried the cultivation of cinnamon, which is a major export crop in Sri Lanka. But the cold weather condition in Dellawa village is not suitable for cinnamon. Therefore, my friend did not get the opportunity to harvest cinnamon properly. My friend had cultivated cinnamon in a certain area in that large cultivation area and it was seen that it was growing successfully. But as the friend mentioned, when you go close to those trees and look, the leaves show some symptoms. Therefore, they did not grow well.

Dellawa village is very famous for Kitul plam beverage which is considered as a local drink. In my friend's land, I could see some Kithul plam trees, and I could see a row of vines going up along the tree that were used to brew the drink. In today's environment where the prices of alcohol found in restaurants and wine stores are skyrocketing, the trend towards local drinks has increased. Therefore, the person who is currently engaged in this industry has the ability to gain more profit.

Due to the extreme cold weather conditions in Dellawa village, the maximum yield can be obtained for tea cultivation. My friend had cultivated a large area of tea plantation. My friend mentioned to me that in another year, more yield can be obtained. Therefore, I can wait for the friend to get more benefit from that tea cultivation.

When you look down from the high mountain area where my friend's farm is located, you can see a paddy field. Accordingly, it can be known that rice cultivation is also done more in Dellawa village. As it is located on the border of the Sinharaja Reserve, many types of plants bearing various types of biodiversity can be seen in this Dellawa village.

Sri Lanka's main export crop, tea varieties with a unique flavor are also found in Dellawa area. So you can see in these photos how tea cultivation has spread very well in my friend's cultivation area. It makes me happy to see my friend reap more benefits from this tea plantation in the future.

By the time we reached Dellawa village, it was a severe cold weather. It rained heavily during the night. The wind and rain were strong and did not disturb our sleep. I don't need any facts to tell you why even a trip like this is enough to forget all the problems of life in one moment. Even after waking up in the morning, we saw an environment heavy with fog.

Walking in this environment with all the elements of nature, I really felt my mental freedom. Here we saw many trees with other unique foods that can be used instead of rice for our daily food. Especially seeing jackfruits, palm trees etc. in this area shows the fertility. The harvest of those big trees could also be seen.

We were all drenched in heavy rain while walking up the hill. So we all decided to go down to a river area for bathing. As mentioned by my friend, the place is safe for swimming, but when we went there, it was raining heavily on the hilltops, so this small stream was drawn like the water of a big river. Due to the heavy rainfall, the water level in Vat river was also high and the color of the water was also dirty. A young man from a house located near the river said not to walk in the middle of the river. Due to heavy rainfall falling on the hilltops where the river originates, it overflows from the lower parts of the river and is dangerous. Therefore, we engaged in this activity of swimming in a shallow place near the river.

Due to the heavy rainfall in this area, the small streams were being represented as waterfalls. We can conclude that the beginning of the big waterfalls that perfectly display the beauty of nature can be in this way. The unique features of nature are beautiful even during dangerous rains.

In the Dellawa area where we traveled, we saw various types of crops. You can get an idea about the fertility of this area by seeing the growth rate of those crops. In fact, the simple life in such an area is more beneficial to our life than the busy life in an urban area. There is no jealousy in those people. They are always there to help others. The distance between houses is also very large. Therefore, the householders of any house have the opportunity to do their work freely.

*So I have to thank my friend for creating such a unique travel opportunity. I have been fortunate enough to visit a place that I have never actually visited in my lifetime. There are two ways to reach Delhi area. One of the ways is to come through Galle - Udugama and come through Neluwa. The other way is to take the Galle Akurassa road and come to Morawaka town and from there to Dellawa. See you again with another travel blog.
