Plantain/beans porridge with shell periwinkles

How often do you cook with shelled periwinkles? Well I must tell you I love it so much in my Nigerian porridge meals. Here we can cook porridge yam, porridge beans, porridge potatoes, porridge plantain...

Speaking of porridge, I was to delightfully share with you how I made plantains/beans porridge using shelled periwinkles.

Below you can see a plate of beautifully made porridge beans/plantain with the tiny black shells inside.

Ok, here are the few ingredients I used in achieving the nice looking dish:

  • 2 plantains
  • 2 cups beans
  • 1 cup shell periwinkle
  • 2 small onions
  • 1.5 cooking spoon palm oil
  • 2 seasoning cubes
  • 1 handful of crayfish
  • 7 pieces fresh pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 5 leaves of Jatropha

Procedure

  • First cut the periwinkles on the head and get them ready.

  • Select the beans carefully to remove stone and then wash it and put in a pot and put it to heat to start cooking

  • While on that, wash, peel and cut the plantains

After that I slice the onions, grind the crayfish and pepper and set it aside while still waiting for the beans to get soft

  • Next steam the periwinkles. Wash it and add to a pot, add pepper, onions, salad and a little water

  • Check the beans to see if it's soft enough using a spoon to get the seed and pressing with your finger

Once confirmed soft, I added plantains to it and let it boil with the beans.

Then add pepper, onions, salt, and the seasoning cubes to it

  • Add the steamed periwinkles to it

  • Stir gently and cover the pot for a while

Next add palm oil to it and cover again for a few minutes l. Then add the crayfish and stir! Also check for salt to see whether to add more...

After that add the Jatropha leaves cover for a few seconds then stir. And after that, food is ready to be served!

What an interesting dish, the only porridge I ever had is a sweet kind of porridge and the one made with rice. I'm curious though how well they taste together, I mean your ingredients here. 🤔
