Can you share your journey of how you discovered Hive and what initially attracted you to the platform?
I have been on various platforms that rewarded you in some form of crypto for many years. There was a platform called read.cash that I was a member of, where you rewarded in BCH the BitcoinCash token. It was a very fun friendly laidback blogging platform. There were a few people there who tested the waters in Hive and reported back how much they were enjoying it. I did join Hive in September 2021 and was persuaded to stay by the ever encouraging @coquicoin. I was not impressed in the beginning as I found it an extremely cold place for new members. So during the first five months I was going to stop a fair few times but Super Eli @coquicoin would not take no for an answer and then yes I became hooked, and here I am still having fun some three years later.
I am not going to lie .... the initial attraction, 100%, was to earn some free cryptocurrency.
As someone who's exploring the crypto world, what has been the most rewarding or surprising part of your experience so far?
I reckon the most surprising (but when I think about it then it really isn't surprising at all) think is that people really are sheep. Social media really has ruined lived, people don't think for themselves anymore. Somebody says buy x on twitter and everyone rushes to buy x, someone says time to sell, they all sell. They don't even think, FOMO has taken over. Fear Of Missing Out.
The most rewarding is mentoring people. I have a Masters in Knowledge Management and I love making tacit knowledge explicit. For people who want to learn, then there is no better feeling that helping someone. In fact as I am writing this on Sunday I had to message someone I mentor as she needed to check on a Testnet she has been doing. Time for the next phase of it, so yeah that is the most rewarding thing, helping people. I guess not just in crypto but we shall address that later!
How has your experience on Hive evolved since you joined in 2021, and what keeps you motivated to stay active
I think my experience has been cyclical. As mentioned those first five months were frustrating. Once I was hooked I would engage like the madman I was. I was forevermore reading posts and commenting meaningful well in my eyes meaningful comments all over the place. There used to be an engagement league and I won that a few times. It actually spurred a few of us on. However that fell by the wayside and engagement fell off. I think people go through phases where they become jaded with Hive or events in RL take over. It is very easy to slip into a routine of not engaging on Hive then becoming active.
I do moderate for a community and that keeps me active. What really keeps me active is just seeing how much Hive can affect the lives of many people. I think the powers that be forget just how much 1HBD can actually buy for some people that use the Hive blockchain as a source of income!
You hosted a podcast on the Ecency Discord, Tell us more about it, What inspired you to start it, and what did you hope listeners take away from your show?
Madilyn ... note past tense, I don't host it anymore but good questions
"Talk Time with Tengo" was the name of my show. It was a lot of fun and I would not have done it but for the encouragement and help from @melinda010100 and especially @beeber who spurred me on and had faith I could do it.
I loved it and I loved researching and getting guests from Hive to tell us about their projects on Hive. I think the audience had fun, probably more fun when the 82 years young Matilda made an appearance! It was time consuming though and I stopped on Discord but others have taken up the mantle. Matilda and possibly "It Takes Two to Tengo" will be making a return for November and the the national podcasting month.
Are you involved in any other projects/communities on hive? If yes, please tell us about them
I have slimmed down what projects I am involved with on Hive. I am a moderator for the Silver Bloggers community which is an OCD incubated community. We are not metal dealers but are a place for the famous Generation X onwards, we bring together young-at-heart kindred spirits and younger 'old souls'. This keeps me active as I like to see what our members are posting and helping and curating. I also select posts for the InLeo Author of the Week initiative.
I am the proofreader and sometime report for the HiQ magazine and am featured in the @craftink game both as myself and my alterego Matilda! Big things are planned for the autumn!
I am also a proud dreemer and ambassador for @dreemport, infact my first Hive meetup was through dreemport. It is a great community where you are treated like family.
What do you enjoy most about connecting with people through Hive and your podcast?
I have travelled to 69 countries and love people and their cultures. Through Hive I can keep up with these cultures, although I can't taste the food, I can replicate it as yes I love to cook!
It is fascinating how alike yet totally different we all are, those differences are what I love to hear about when I connect with people!
Many people are still skeptical about crypto and blockchain. What would you say to someone who's hesitant to explore this space?
I must admit I am a gambler. I could bet on two flies to see which one flies away first. On the flip side I am a great researcher.
Whatever you do you should be researching. As far as I am concerned ALL crypto is a gamble and could go to zero that is why I refuse to call it an investment. You don't get returns of x100 on an investment, that is a fluffing gamble.
Blockchains are here to stay, and the technology is being used by more and more companies that you are probably unaware of. It is not all about crypto. People should research and find mentors. If you join with someone you don't know then be prepared to get no help, people need to remember that when they join programs and apps!
What do you think is the best achievement you've ever had whether on hive or in real life?
I don't think I have achieved anything on Hive nor in life. Every morning that I wake up I say is a fluffing achievement, But seriously I would say what I enjoy most is the same on Hive as it is in real life. It is what I often did in countries in West and Central Africa, North Africa too as well as the Middle East. I better stop or this will end up like a WorldMappin post! I love to help people when I can and on Hive that often means mentoring or tutoring people on how to do things. If I can help someone improve their writing style or even the look of their posts then I will. That was one great thing about the Ecency discord chat showing people what tokens to hodl to achieve profits etc!
You've been on Hive for a few years now”what advice would you give to newcomers who want to make an impact on the platform?
Hive is what you make of it, so concentrate on your own account and not on other Hivians accounts and you will love it too.
Be genuine and don't cut corners. If you try to scam people or farm or all those other dodgy tactics you will be found out and will find out that it is not worth it!
My biggest advice is not to spread yourself too thin. Find a mentor and listen to them! Focus on a handful maybe 3 or 4 communities and engage with the people there. Read their posts and leave thoughtful comments. Don't focus on the big accounts, focus on having fun and being genuine and you will get there!
Lastly, if you could leave the Hive community with one message or piece of wisdom, what would it be?
Hive is our community so embrace it and embrace each other but be respectful to one another and above all have fun!

Wow, @tengolotodo is even more awesome than I thought! I've never posted to SilverBloggers, so I did not know he's a Moderator there. I don't always read HiQ, so I didn't know of involvement there. And I've never played Craftink, so... And 69 countries...?!?!? OMG! And a man that cooks... This all so fun to know! 😁
