A Walk to Igwu River: Exploring Ndiebe Abam Village
Taking a walk through the village always feels magical, there we're surrounded by nature and it's unspoiled beauty. Recently, my family and I had the pleasure of visiting my maternal village Ndiebe Abam Village, where I call a serene and picturesque place.
One thing I love about this place is the connection it brings me to nature and the beautiful rivers the village holds. Thankfully our families always come together in the village every two years for the sake of the holiday and spending time together.
Along with my siblings, I embarked on a memorable journey to the biggest river in the village called the Igwu River, a spot known for its tranquility and stunning views.
Our adventure began with a walk along the village’s red-earth paths, bordered by dry trees and leaves due to the harmattan weather. The air was refreshingly cool, carrying a subtle hint of earthiness that only the countryside can offer.
Walking with my siblings made the experience even more special. We were chatting about a lot of things and laughing hard along the way lol.
Our first glimpse of the Igwu River came from the village bridge, a structure that perfectly frames the river’s beauty. From this vantage point, the river appeared to stretch endlessly, It was such a nice view from up there!
I stood on the bridge for a while, soaking in the moment. Naturally, I couldn’t resist taking a few photos—the scenery was too beautiful not to capture
I was unable to resist entering the water, so I stepped into the cool water, feeling its refreshing embrace. It was as if the river washed away every trace of fatigue and worry. Fully immersing myself, I felt really refreshed.
As I played in the water with my siblings, we captured some truly beautiful photos—moments frozen in time that reflect the joy and serenity of the experience.
Ok I didn't plan to swim in the river, I just immersed myself in it. But in this river, we see people bathing, children swimming, and people also do dishes and some fetch their water from there too
At the river we met lots of new faces and most of them were staring at us as if we were foreign people 😂, well this is because we're not often at the village so they keep asking us whose children we are? And to our surprise most of them are always related to us one way or the other and we didn't even know them!
This walk wasn’t just about visiting a river; it was about reconnecting—with nature, with my siblings, and with myself. The Igwu River reminded me of life’s simple joys, the kind that can’t be bought or replicated. I will always love coming back to this cool place.
We left the river feeling refreshed and grateful, we also enjoyed seeing and meeting new faces there. It’s amazing how moments like these remind us of the beauty that surrounds us if we take the time to look
Whenever I visit Ndiebe Abam Village, the Igwu River is a must-go destination for me. I love watching the river and seeing the things happening there.
Here are a few more photos I took during the walk:

Lovely time with siblings

Fun
The river isn't very far from our family house in the village so it was easy to get there within 20 minutes.
The beauty of Ndiebe Abam Village and the serene river will always hold a special place in my heart. Moments like these remind me of the importance of cherishing nature and spending time with loved ones. I have plans to visit more rivers in the village and I'll tell you their unique stories.
Thank you all for your time here!
