A Weekend Lately

These days, I appreciate my weekend more. I talked about this quite often and I tried so much that I am not going to check out my internet. It’s always a good time to reset and I learned this from my friend who has 9-5 and a weekend to balance everything else in his life.I reckon it’s time for me to slow down as well and recenter my focus. As I also struggled with creative blocks recently, it is the way that I can finally rest my mind and refresh on the weekdays.

Anyway, since it has been a while that I was cooking in my room, I decided to do so. Back in the day, I was experimenting with so many dishes inside my room. I spent hours cooking with limited tools and made difficult food. Now, as I am growing older, my palate has been pretty simple. I enjoy things like clear soup and dishes with more vegetables. So, today I was attempting to make comforting chicken soup with simple spices. I also fried some tempe and tofu to pair with the chicken soup. These are typically something I eat on a normal day.

While in the past, I did most of my groceries online, these days I found a nearby vegetable market and pop-up chicken store. I make sure to visit when it’s quite early to avoid people and the sun as it gets pretty darn hot. Sometimes, I am surprised that living in this city, food per person is quite reasonable. For a small tempe, it costs 3000 and a tofu would cost 10000 for a bag. Depending on the vegetables, it can go from 2000 to 5000. Just for those things alone, I typically spend $0.64 to $2 for my daily groceries. But of course, there are places in town where things are made to be more expensive. Since finding the place, I have saved up quite a bit on food as it’s quite rare for me to do take-outs as I want to improve my health.

Usually while I am cooking, I am also calling my mom. It’s the best way to catch up with her. I found out that she’s now taking care of my dad as he’s currently sick. I also got an update of a few things here and there that sometimes can be funny.

I probably have to upgrade my cooking tools, especially my electric cooker. It has been with me for more than a few years and it’s time to upgrade to something new as it looks like it’s not going to last quite longer.I have been experimenting with many things on it and tried many dishes. For someone who lives in a micro place, it’s a great tool to have and definitely recommended. As you can see above, the electric cooker can be used for frying too. It’s usually simple frying and I tend to use coconut oil as they heat up the most and speed up the process. Sometimes I even make fried chicken with it.

My weekend ends on Sunday morning when I am starting to be even more productive and consider it my weekday. When Sunday morning hits, I no longer lounge around and start doing things that I am supposed to. Then, it goes on like that until next Friday. In a world where things can seem like it never sleeps, it’s always best to know when to rest and set the best time to do it.
