Sabah State Museum visit

Sabah is full of interesting places to visit for any tourist. Even though I am a Malaysian, I always feel intrigued by the gems hidden here in Sabah. This museum is located in the heart of Sabah. This is a must-visit if you do ever visit Sabah.

SABAH STATE MUSEUM

The architecture is just amazing. It looks like a sailing boat about to sail off to the horizon. Some of the artifacts here are a couple of hundreds of years old. It was my first time seeing something in a museum of that age.

At the entrance

The clock tower here in Sabah.

Atkinson Clock Tower

One of Sabah's oldest surviving wooden structures here in the city. It even survived stray bullets during WW2.

This place is huge

This place is huge. After exploring the two-story complex, there are also exterior exhibits to explore.

After getting tickets that were reasonably priced, I walked in and saw this amazing structure.

Bryde's whale skeletal structure

This skeleton came from a real whale that drifted to Sabah's shores in the 90s. Just standing next to it feels quite amazing. I could imagine the skill.

This skeleton even entered the Malaysian Book of Record.

Yes, Malaysia has its version of the Guinness world record but a Malaysian version.

This is huge. I was standing next to it and I felt quite small.

Our Culture

A wooden replica of a sailship.

The exhibit of the local wedding costumes

How textile was made in the good old days when modern technology wasn't present.

Traditional Sabah costume

These costumes are still worn today. Volunteers still preserve traditional culture in dance

Farming

The museum is doing a good job of preserving the culture. Standing here felt as though time had frozen.

Ritual costumes

These are the most sacred of all costumes. Usually, these costumes when worn are for certain festivals.

This is the Dusun's, one of the tribes of Sabah, ritual hut.

A monument for the childless

These are the different types of baskets which were all hand woven from raw materials that are usually found in the jungles of Borneo. These are quite sturdy. Some of these are still used today.

Hats

Hand-woven hats are used during farming, harvesting, and many more. Just to shield from the sun.

Musical instruments made from raw materials found in the forest.

Thank you very much for reading this post. I usually enjoy visiting museums. This is one section of the whole museum. There are many different sections of this museum.
