Creating Photobooks with AI-Generated Images as RPG Recap!

Hello everyone!

If you play Tabletop RPG Games, you're probably already used to the infamous "Session Recaps", which means starting out the gameplay session by providing a summary of last week's session, like a highlight reel.

Each Dungeon Master likes to do Recap in their own way: some GMs do the recap by themselves, others ask a single player to tell what went through on the last session, while others ask all he players collectively do the recap. In the end, it's all the same: everyone's refreshing their own memories by quickly going over the important stuff that recently happened in the story.

A Recap usually goes like this: "Oh we're currently in the doorstep of a haunted mansion in the outskirts of Baldur's Gate, because the captain of the guard asked us to investigate a murder that happened near this place. We already encountered smugglers in a cave nearby, killed them, and found a letter saying that 'the body was brought to the mansion in order to do the ritual'. We sprinted to the mansion, and now we're here!"

Photobook as Recap

My playgroup has been pretty excited about using Leonardo.AI to generate images for our RPG Campaign. And then I had the idea to use those images to create a "Photobook" of our adventures: we would play our weekly session, until the next week the players would be generating images related to that session, and these images would be compiled into a single book, which small quotes or commentaries about what was going on.

Then, in the future, we would have a huge Photobook of our campaign, with each single important event depicted on it.

For example, in the image above we're reaching Candlekeep for the first time: it wasn't a really important event for my own character, but it was CRUCIAL for another player and he made this image.

Then, in Candlekeep, we found books that informed us what we would be dealing with in Avernus: devils! So we put several images of those books, to remember us in the future that it was just at this situation that we discovered that we were dealing with infernal stuff!

Then we took a detour into the Underdark for a few weeks, to buy magic weapons and such. So, obviously, our underdark-tour is also on the book!

We're having a lot of fun creating these Photobooks, and it's improving our gaming experience by A LOT!

Thanks for reading this post, and until next time!

Unless stated otherwise, all images are created and owned by me. Also, believe it or not, I'm not actually a squirrel! This handsome rodent in my profile picture is a character from 'Conker: Live & Reloaded'. Here's Real Life me!
