A visit to the presidential car

Hello, friends. I have to tell you about an incredible experience I had a few days ago. It turns out that I visited for the first time a place that I never thought existed, let alone having the possibility to visit. I am talking about the Coche Mambí, a train carriage built in 1990 that is simply marvelous.

This grandiose bagon is located on Churruca Street, near where the first House of Representatives of the Republic of Cuba was once located, in Old Havana. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that this carriage was built by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, an American company, and destined to be used by top executives and political personalities. No less than by all the presidents of Cuba since 1902.

When I found this marvel of history, there were other people who were also interested in knowing it, so we were lucky to have an incredible guide who explained everything about this place, even those doubts that arose, telling us the fascinating story behind this car. We are talking about a protocol room, a dining room, a kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms... practically a motor home. The attention to detail is amazing, from the choice of wood to the baccarat tableware.

Most impressively, the Coche Mambi retains the ice bins that were used as the old version of air conditioning. Imagine the era and how they managed. Touring the beds where the presidents slept and the staff hammocks was amazing, even more so allowing me to sit on one of these beds.

The complexity of the plumbing in the bathrooms, with hot water in those days, amazed me, as the movement of the carriage over the lines could cause damage to the pipes. And that's not all, it also has a refrigerator, safe and all the amenities you might expect in a home, but not on a train.

What really captivated me were the display cases filled with baccarat glassware. As an antique aficionado, this was like being in paradise. To be able to admire each piece and think about the history it carries with it is something all antique lovers would enjoy.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit the Coche Mambi, don't hesitate for a second. It is a unique experience that will transport you to another era, to the majesty of presidential train rides. A pleasant experience that I would be willing to repeat.
