I Owned Up To My Wrong And It Saved The Day!

How will you react if you hear that your partner will leave you to go spend the valentine's day with another person? Read how Tim reacted.

It was a cool afternoon and I hurried to the camp kitchen to collect food - rice and chicken which was the special treat for corp members for Sunday lunch. I was hoping the queue wouldn't be long but on getting there I was disappointed. I was very hungry and couldn't imagine joining from the back. What do I do? I thought.

Some corpers were fixing themselves up at the front, some succeeded while some were pushed out, You know no be everybody dey get luck but for me, my own luck must shine, l said. I moved fast and got in front of one male corper. He shouted "see this one again" and I turned saying pleadingly sorry, please I'm very hungry. He said okay. I heaved a sigh of relief. It wasn't long, I collected my food, thanked him and went straight to my bunk to eat.

After that encounter, I didn't see him again until weeks after we passed out of the orientation camp. I guess fate had another plan for us.

We were both posted at the state capital but serving in different places of primary assignment. I was staying at the family house which is the catholic corpers' lodge. The lodge was equally the home for all catholic corpers and non catholics too, so we always had our fellow corp members coming around. Apart from the excos, other corpers were allowed to live there but only if they were ready to abide by the rules of the house.

One Saturday afternoon, some corpers visited and he was one of them. I came out to welcome them as we usually do and when I moved to where he was seated he said "we meet again" and I was like what? He asked "don't you remember me again, at the camp kitchen?". I shouted "was that you?, oh gosh" and we bursted out with laughter. After laughing to our fill, introduction followed and that was how we became friends. Tim was his name.

Although we were staying far from each other that didn't didn't stop us from seeing often. He always made out time to visit the family house. Sometimes, we could just go to the popular plaza in town just to be together. There were trees, flowers and water fountain there so it was a perfect place for two love birds, hehehe.

Every time spent with him was worth it. Tim was cool, gentle, caring, and fun to be.

Our friendship grew stronger by the day until I did something which almost led to our breakup. I had accepted an invitation to go spend the valentine's day at the beach with someone else, the person was actually my senior in school. Being someone I knew before, it was good to see him again. He was always calling to check up on me so asking me to join them to the beach wasn't a bad idea. The excitement of visiting the beach for the first time overwhelmed me and I forgot that might hurt Tim's feelings. When I told him about it he said;

if that will make you happy, you can go but don't expect to see me after you come back".

He hung up. I called him back but he didn't take it. "Oh what have I done?", I cried out. It was then my eyes cleared and I saw that I was in a deep mess. I needed to clean it up fast.

First I sent an apology message to him, then called the other guy telling him that I won't be joining them again. After that I thought of a good plan to make up for hurting Tim, and a picnic came to mind. Perfect idea. I told my roommate what happened including the idea that we all go for a picnic at one popular resort with Tim but that she will invite him herself. She scolded me for my actions but later agreed to support me and immediately called Tim inviting him to come spend the valentine's day with them at the family house since I wouldn't be around. He hesitated at first but later accepted.

On the eve of valentine's day, I called him again, he didn't take it so I just let him be.
The D-day came and we all got things ready, waiting for my prince charming to arrive, lol. I was at our friend's house so he wouldn't see me when he comes. Immediately he arrived, my roommate notified me and I went to see him. Luckily she brought him inside the room to give us privacy to make up before we head out for the picnic. As I got in, I held his hands, owned up to my wrongs for being selfish, inconsiderate and equally hurting his feelings. I apologized for my actions and promised not do so again. He handed me a break up letter which he had intended giving to my roommate. He was deeply hurt, a proof that he loved me genuinely.

Amid tears I gave him my word not to hurt him again, He saw how remorseful I was and forgave me.
He also promised to remain true and always be there for me. That made me respect and trust him the more. The friendship that would have been broken was restored once again.

After that I told him about the picnic and we all left.
We had the fun of our lives, we gisted, played games, sang and danced too including a boat ride and the river. We had enough food and drinks to top it up. Everyone was happy.

Our relationship waxed stronger till even after the completion of our service year. But you know there's always an end to every beginning but we're still friends till date.

Thank you for reading.

I was reading to see the end of this relationship but then, there's always an end to every beginning indeed but great to know that you guys are still friends till date.

Your sincere apology melted his heart and that made him to retrieve his break up letter

"All's well that ends well!" - as the saying goes. It is good that Tim forgave you and that you quickly saw your error and apologise to him. If one is genuine with one's apologies - any heart will melt. That was evident with the surprise meeting and your words. Nice to hear that you are still friends.
