MY WEEKEND EXPERIENCE AT A VOLUNTEER

Search your name on Google and see what people say about you says Macualay Milton. It was a great session at career connect during this weekend, yesterday on the 26th August, 2023 at the 1000 capacity in Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB , Nigeria.

This program was focused on bringing people who are close to being successful on their career path to students pursuing the same goal in technology , politics, Entertainment, academics and business.
We had about eight of them , starting from The commissioner for youth and sport Oyo state, Hon Seun Fakorede, Macaulay Milton, Layi Wasab, Mr Wadud, Joey Akan, Omotara Akanni Lawrence, Solomon Enilolobo, Alabi Lawrence and Benjamin Elemide.
It was not my first time of meeting with the Honorable commissioner, the first time was at the Southwest Leadership Summit organized the former Student Union President of my school, Oloyede Proverbial. I couldn’t remember quite vividly how he narrated his political journey since his undergraduate stage and I could feel the zeal for leardership. He has a favorite quote of saying ‘ I don’t not act my age, I act my responsibility ‘. He repeated the same at the second event I met him. He organized a seminar themed Africa by Africans, this was where I was able to hear him speak very well and this particular event has been a major positive contribution to my life as an ambitious individual. And I was able to take a picture with him.
It was sad I could not witness his session at career connect summit to the end as I was among the protocol members who volunteered for the event. I had other duties to discharge.

Moving forward, I was attached as a protocol members to respond to the need of a speaker who is a coach, Benjamin Elemide. He had a great session together with Dr Macaulay Milton. During this session, Dr Macualay narrated how he relentlessly sought for more than 20 scholarships and he was only opportuned to secure two. He mentioned the importance of having an experienced personality as a mentor to guide you. He proceeded to let us be aware and be mindful of what is being said about us on the social media. He said, those who will be giving scholarship might have to do a background check on you.

Before Joey Akan left, I happened to listen to him having discussion with my fellow volunteers and I heard him say ‘ to be a good writer, you need to be able to absorb other people’s thought ‘ this is exactly what I needed to be a good writer. It was nice having a picture with this great personality.

The most awaited content creators came in and the crowd was really pulled, Mr Layi Wasab, Mr Wadud, Alabi Lawrence, Omotara Akanni Lawrence. The session was indeed a great one and I got lots of gist from my friends as I missed the session also.

Volunteering for program was never a new thing to me but joining the protocol department was the first. I had an experience yesterday as we all were taught to to walk a guest to their seat right from their cars. Together with the professional way of responding to the guest’s need.
