Smoke, Dandelion and Roses - A chill review of Jaehyun's first album 'J'.

The guy is a centennial, bro.
It is so gratifying to know that my contemporaries also know how to do a good job within society. We are not so far off the mark; you can trust us.

Jaehyun is member of a great boygroup, where ballads, R&B and sound experimentation are in the agenda. As a crew they have more than four hundred songs over eight years (with these people one can't complain that working eight hours is too much).

The thing is, Jaehyun decided to dive into the ocean to reach the surface with treasures. He made his solo debut on August 26 with his eight-track album titled “J” and... well, my man slayed.

I am a lifelong fangirl, but I am excused because the guy has my back: talent he has.
Lota, you only like him because he's cute, I'll charge you for 'pick me' behavior.
No, you will not, sir! I was attracted to this man at first because I noticed we had several things in common that might seem simple to you, but to me they were quiet special: introversion, a love affair with music, with R&B tunes, songs for piano, Broadway musicals, High School Musical, the pleasure of listening to people talk…

Later on, I became aware that he carries a baritone voice to match his own musical tastes, and that he is attractive, smart, and that everything related to his work he knows how to do it perfectly.

These are behavior patterns that inspire me.

Well, the youngster debuted with eight songs, American producers and bilingual verses. Rhythm and Blues here, Rhythm and Blues there. A little jazz touch on Can't Get Enough, a Justin Timberlake Suit & Tie vibe on the track Smoke and bam! Art, compadre.

The medalists are Smoke, Dandelion and Roses. All three promotional singles, different from each other.

According to my perception, we are dealing with three variants of R&B:
Smoke - R&B combined with pop and soul (the elegant one, the one with suit and tie, the one with luxurious stages and champagne).
Dandelion - contemporary R&B (the danceable one, the one that can be upbeat, romantic and funky, the fun one at times),
Roses - Slow Jam, with a slight gospel vibe (the sexy one, the one your girl likes, the one your boy likes, the one Chris Brown and Kehlani sing to you, the bedtime one).

Smoke alludes to the singer's willingness to do whatever his girl wants. He puts her on a pedestal. It is an elegant and sexy “say, gorgeous, ask what you want me to give you” with those raspy tenor vocals. I was too stunned to speak! However, the music video is interestingly centered around narcissism with a thriller feel that rhymes with the song and the man who sings it.

Then we have the Dandelion/Roses duo. Two flowers, each with a different scent.

In Dandelion the girl continues to be the main character of the story, but this time Jaehyun is spitting poetry at her like a romantic (and just for the record, he says so himself in the song). He exposes the sentimental man in love who will do the impossible to prove he is serious.

In Roses, make way to the honeyed falsettos. Maybe you look at the title name and think that this is also a romantic song. Yes, it is, however, it evokes a man who is still in love, but must accept that his girl has gone with someone else. A breakup anthem this is. That is what Roses is about. And I find it very realistic. At the beginning of relationships, we think everything will go just fine. Then the spell (sometimes) is broken.
Have you ever been heartbroken, Jae?

Jaehyun - Dandelion & Roses (Official)

Jaehyun has given me three versions of love with this album: romance (in Dandelion he beautifully falls in love with her), passion (in Smoke he still falls in love with her, but on a more private and concise level, more mature and accurate) and heartbreak (in Roses he is aware he lost the girl but stands to the idea that she still loves him).

But that is on me. Now it's your turn: listen to J.

And tell me how you felt doing it, please.😏

Thank you very much for reading this far.
