Nectar Queen Women's Version Animated Style
Hello everyone! I'm Lorentm, a digital artist passionate about creating fan art and unique characters. I'm very excited to share with you my latest project for the Splinterlands weekly art contest. This time, I decided to reinvent the character "NECTAR QUEEN" with an anime style that I hope you will love as much as I do.
From the moment I decided to work on this fan art, I knew I wanted to capture the regal and powerful essence of the Nectar Queen, but adding that characteristic anime touch that I love so much. Thus was born this feminine version of the queen, with large, expressive blue eyes that reflect her determination and wisdom. Her short, vibrant orange-reddish hair brings a dynamic energy that contrasts beautifully with her golden crown, the undisputed symbol of her royal status.
One of the details I most enjoyed creating were the translucent wings, inspired by those of a bee, which give her an ethereal and magical air. The crisscross detailed bodice and puffed sleeves not only add elegance, but also emphasize her strength and commanding presence. I wanted every element of her clothing and appearance to convey both beauty and power.
The background of the illustration is an homage to the Nectar Queen's natural home. I used hexagonal panels in shades of orange and yellow, evoking a honeycomb, to frame the queen in her most authentic surroundings. This touch not only complements her design, but also reinforces her connection to nature and her role as the protector of her hive.
Working on this fan art was an incredibly rewarding experience. As I watched each stroke and color bring the Nectar Queen to life, I felt a deep connection to the character and a great satisfaction in seeing my ideas take shape on screen. I hope that as you view this illustration, you will feel the same excitement and admiration for the Nectar Queen as I did in creating her.

Desde el momento en que decidí trabajar en este fan art, supe que quería capturar la esencia regia y poderosa de la Nectar Queen, pero añadiendo ese toque característico del anime que tanto me apasiona. Así nació esta versión femenina de la reina, con grandes y expresivos ojos azules que reflejan su determinación y sabiduría. Su cabello corto y vibrante, de un tono naranja-rojizo, aporta una energía dinámica que contrasta maravillosamente con su corona dorada, símbolo indiscutible de su estatus real.
Uno de los detalles que más disfruté creando fueron las alas translúcidas, inspiradas en las de una abeja, que le dan un aire etéreo y mágico. El corsé con detalles entrecruzados y las mangas abullonadas no solo añaden elegancia, sino que también enfatizan su fuerza y presencia imponente. Quería que cada elemento de su vestimenta y apariencia transmitiera tanto belleza como poder.
El fondo de la ilustración es un homenaje al hogar natural de la Nectar Queen. Utilicé paneles hexagonales en tonos naranjas y amarillos, evocando un panal de abejas, para enmarcar a la reina en su entorno más auténtico. Este toque no solo complementa su diseño, sino que también refuerza su conexión con la naturaleza y su rol como protectora de su colmena.
Trabajar en este fan art fue una experiencia increíblemente gratificante. A medida que veía cómo cada trazo y color daba vida a la Nectar Queen, sentí una profunda conexión con el personaje y una gran satisfacción al ver cómo mis ideas cobraban forma en la pantalla. Espero que al ver esta ilustración, sientan la misma emoción y admiración por la Nectar Queen que yo sentí al crearla.

- Unlike most queen bees, Nectar Queens like to get out of the nest and get their Proboscis dirty. Fortunately, you can hear one coming long before it reaches you. Unfortunately, they have a real taste for blood.
- A diferencia de la mayoría de las abejas reinas, a las reinas del néctar les gusta salir del nido y ensuciarse la probóscide. Afortunadamente, puedes oír una acercándose mucho antes de que te alcance. Desafortunadamente, tienen un verdadero gusto por la sangre.
Process / Proceso
The first step in my process was to develop the initial sketch. This is where all my ideas begin to take shape. I used light, quick strokes to establish the pose and overall composition of the character. At this point, I focused on capturing the essence of the Nectar Queen, making sure her pose reflected both her royalty and her strength. Drawing those big, expressive blue eyes was critical from the start, as I wanted them to convey her determined character.
Once I was satisfied with the sketch, I moved on to outlining. I used sharper, more defined and precise lines to accentuate the details and give the illustration a clear structure. This is where the key elements, such as the golden crown, the translucent wings and the corset with crisscross detailing, began to stand out. I made sure that each line contributed to the cohesiveness of the design, while maintaining the elegance and strength I wanted the Nectar Queen to convey.
The next step was coloring. I chose a vibrant color palette that would enhance the Nectar Queen's personality and status. The orange-reddish hair gave her a touch of energy and vibrancy, while the gold tones of her crown and corset details added an air of majesty. I especially had fun with the wings, playing with translucent tones to give her an ethereal and magical look.
To give the illustration more depth and realism, I applied shadows. This involved identifying the light sources and how they would affect each part of the character. Soft shadows on the corset and wings helped create a sense of volume and three-dimensionality, while more pronounced shadows on her hair and face highlighted her features and expressions.
Finally, I added the shimmers and light details, which are the finishing touches that really make an illustration come alive. I used subtle shimmers on the crown and wings to emphasize her radiance and majesty. The reflections in the eyes added that touch of expressiveness that is so characteristic of the anime style, and some luminous details in the hexagonal background gave a polished and cohesive finish to the scene.
Each stage of this process was an opportunity to infuse more of my vision and passion into the illustration. Creating the Nectar Queen was an enriching experience, and I'm so glad I was able to share this journey with you - I hope you enjoy looking at this piece as much as I enjoyed creating it!
El primer paso en mi proceso fue desarrollar el boceto inicial. Aquí es donde todas mis ideas comienzan a tomar forma. Utilicé trazos ligeros y rápidos para establecer la pose y la composición general del personaje. En este punto, me enfoqué en capturar la esencia de la Nectar Queen, asegurándome de que su postura reflejara tanto su realeza como su fuerza. Dibujar esos grandes y expresivos ojos azules fue fundamental desde el principio, ya que quería que transmitieran su carácter decidido.
Una vez que estuve satisfecha con el boceto, pasé al delineado. Utilicé líneas más definidas y precisas para acentuar los detalles y darle una estructura clara a la ilustración. Aquí es donde los elementos clave, como la corona dorada, las alas translúcidas y el corsé con detalles entrecruzados, comenzaron a destacar. Me aseguré de que cada línea contribuyera a la coherencia del diseño, manteniendo la elegancia y la fuerza que quería que la Nectar Queen transmitiera.
El siguiente paso fue el coloreado. Elegí una paleta de colores vibrantes que realzaran la personalidad y el estatus de la Nectar Queen. El cabello naranja-rojizo le dio un toque de energía y vitalidad, mientras que los tonos dorados de su corona y detalles del corsé añadieron un aire de majestuosidad. Me divertí especialmente con las alas, jugando con tonos translúcidos que le dieran un aspecto etéreo y mágico.
Para darle más profundidad y realismo a la ilustración, apliqué sombras. Esto implicó identificar las fuentes de luz y cómo estas afectarían cada parte del personaje. Las sombras suaves en el corsé y las alas ayudaron a crear una sensación de volumen y tridimensionalidad, mientras que las sombras más pronunciadas en su cabello y rostro destacaron sus rasgos y expresiones.
Finalmente, añadí los brillos y detalles de luz, que son los toques finales que realmente hacen que una ilustración cobre vida. Utilicé brillos sutiles en la corona y las alas para enfatizar su resplandor y majestuosidad. Los reflejos en los ojos añadieron ese toque de expresividad que es tan característico del estilo anime, y algunos detalles luminosos en el fondo hexagonal dieron un acabado pulido y cohesivo a la escena.
Cada etapa de este proceso fue una oportunidad para infundir más de mi visión y pasión en la ilustración. Crear la Nectar Queen fue una experiencia enriquecedora, y estoy muy contenta de haber podido compartir este viaje con ustedes. ¡Espero que disfruten tanto viendo esta pieza como yo disfruté creándola!
