Llama/Kron is dead. Have you met Kitty/Kron?

You know what ruleset I love? 17 mana with EARTH available. Basically it has been my no-brainer team of Kron/Llama (yeah Ok, I know there are lots of counters to this, but stay with me - I guess from a Bronze/Silver point of view, it's a badass team).

But recently, I think I've come to realise that perhaps Llama/Kron can be upgraded in GOLD to Kitty/Kron. In today's post, let's explore why it's worth the investment into this combo.

First up - let's check out KRON at Level 3 - and why he's an absolute beast!

From his profile, you can see that KRON at Level 3 has three abilities.

1. HEAL - A great skill because he will be a really hard card to kill if he is restoring his own health each round.
2. DIVINE SHIELD - Another good skill, in a nutshell, it's a 'free hit'. The first time KRON is hit, he won't take damage.
3. LAST STAND - This is the key skill, this will give each of his stats +50%.

And, it is this last skill which is so essential, as this will pop Kron to +5 Magic Attack, +3 Boots and +17 Health. From 17 health, he will restore 5 health each round. It'll be a long, long path for any opponent to get this guy down.

And the best part? The card isn't too bad a card to invest in renting. Even at this late stage in the season, you can pick a Level 3 card up for 175 - I think earlier in the season I paid 200, so his price is consistent. Otherwise, you can grab this guy for about $400! Not too bad for such an an impressive card.

Now - if you want to think of the best advantage of Scarred Llama, it's the LAST STAND ability that it confers. But, with KRON holding this as a skill, it asks the question, is Llama really needed? The answer is no, and that's where BYZANTINE KITTY comes to the front of the line.

As far as summoners go, this one is truly impressive. It will give KRON +2 speed, taking his LAST STAND speed to +6, and it will also give him an additional heal EVERY round. How can your opponent hope to knock you down when you heal for +10 every round? Here's the answer, they'll have no hope. (OK, unless they play AFFLICTION, I'll give you that one).

Now, at the moment, this card is available to rent for only 734 DEC. What a bargain! Again, this is a price consistent with where the card was a couple of days ago, meaning for under 1,0000 DEC per day, you can grab yourself an absolutely smashing line up.

But, why take it from me? Let's check out the battles and see how the duo perform:

I found myself a 17 mana battle - a battle where I'd previously jump for joy and play KRON/LLAMA, but in GOLD LEAGUE, I played KITTY/KRON. I came up against an opponent I really think put in a great team, a CUBE who would restore health every round, and a flying attacker with strong attack. In a lot of battles, my opponent would be sitting pretty -

But here's Round 1, you can see my LAST STAND has been activated and I took the first hit on the CUBE for +5.

But, very quickly, you can see this battle has really not gone the way of my opponent, as he lost his CUBE at the end of Round 3. The other side of this, however, is that my KRON just keeps healing himself and being healed by KITTY. He is sitting on a full amount of health, and in Round 4, one attack will be all he needs to knock over my opponent's GARGOYLE to grab a massive win!

OK - so the strategy worked with 17 mana and proved the theory. But it made me wonder, what would happen if I played him in an alternate situation? The battle I found was a poison battle, and let me be blunt - on opening this battle, I gulped. You see, my opponent has two cards with IMMUNITY, one with HEAL, plus a healer, plus a RESURRECT which will then grant that card IMMUNITY. Basically, I applaud my opponent, the strategy they have here looked unbeatable to me. But, let's see it play out.

The battle played out beautifully for my opponent then, as his HEALER died first, and Adelade's RESURRECT cleansed him of poison. At this point in the battle then, he's got a great position. I do need to reflect though that I might have got lucky, as DAX PARAGON had died, and that was a card who had the AFFLICTION skill - with that skill gone, my strategy will be all about healing.

But the power of KITTY/KRON is the healing. In this battle my opponent had +7 attack to hit me with each round, and I took +2 poison damage - but, I gained +5 health each round from KRON's heal, and Kitty gave me the other +4. Basically, I couldn't be touched. In the same way, my opponent's KRALUS out front was getting hit with my +5 damage, but his HEAL and the TANK HEAL kept KRALUS restored as well.

The only place we were heading then, was a FATIGUE battle, and, I'm happy to say, I won when FATIGUE rose to +5 FATIGUE damage.

Evaluation:
I really loved investing in my KRON/KITTY rentals. They were actually part of a pack of about 10 rentals that set me back around 1750 DEC per day, and with 7 days remaining in the season I used these cards to take me from 1900 Silver I to 2850 Diamond III. A lot of my wins involved Kitty, while a number more involved KRON with Obsidian. And the best part? By accessing Diamond, including daily chests, I got more SPS back that more than covered the DEC spent. Not a bad investment then, a profit!
