Carnival of Terror

It was a carnival Monday night in a town on the Venezuelan plain. The town was bustling with the joy of the festival, but at the same time a sense of mystery covered the atmosphere.

They intuited something, but with joy, the consumption of alcoholic beverages and dances they did not give greater importance to what everyone felt. The carnival continued its course in the town of the plains, but something terrifying was coming.

Out of nowhere, a shadow moved among the crowd, many turned to see who had such a mysterious costume, he did not seem to be a citizen of the town, he did not look familiar and incidentally he was very short.

The being slipped between the comparsas and the people dancing, it seemed to flow with the sound of the music.

Just as it had arrived, it disappeared into the darkness of the night and dawn came, ending the party.

The days passed and the being reappeared between the dances in the streets of the town, only this time he was seen with a dark cape that covered part of his face.

It was a strange creature, it looked like a girl, but with features of a disfigured old woman. What could be distinguished from her face was a faint light coming from her eyes.

The party was over immediately. The appearance of this creature terrified all the inhabitants of the Venezuelan plain. They all ran for fear when they saw the paranormal entity.

An old man declared in a loud voice that long ago there was talk of a legend that dealt with the soul of a girl who had disappeared during the carnival, and who wandered tirelessly seeking justice. They all froze, not knowing what to do. The only option was to wait for the girl's soul to find the comfort she was looking for.

Finally, the creature disappeared, but with it the belongings of many in the town also disappeared; they had been stolen.

Some said that the disappearance of the fright was a miracle, but others knew the truth behind its presence.

The mayor of the town had deduced that the presence of the entity was to distract everyone while the houses were robbed. He instructed his police not to divulge anything about what was deduced, that it was best to wait and see if the criminals came back for more. For this he organized a big carnival party on the weekend.

Some students who had come to town to visit relatives learned about the legend and its relationship with an abandoned house that was on the outskirts of town.

That weekend, when everyone was at the party organized by the mayor, the students went to the abandoned house to perform a spiritist ritual to summon the girl. They did this for fun, without any religious belief and drinking a lot of alcohol.

While the mayor, along with his security force, were attentive to any news in the town.

Indeed, just as the mayor predicted, the entity appeared out of nowhere, mixed with the dancing inhabitants.

The order was given for them to learn by all means while another group checked the houses of the town.

They apprehended the dwarf head of the house-robbing gang along with his henchmen and just as the handcuffs were being placed on them, terrifying screams were heard from the abandoned house.

Everyone ran to see what had happened to the boys, but no one was there, just a board with the words YES and NO at its ends.

More carnivals were never celebrated in the town, people sadly remembered that tragic mystery story.

The students were never heard from again; they disappeared out of nowhere.
