THE DUPLEX LIE

I am not a fan of K-drama, or at least I have never used to be. However, there were sometimes when I found myself watching it because my seatmate back then in school was a K-drama addict lover, and she slowly influenced me. The impact remains, I still watch K-drama at times, if it is highly recommended and entertaining

My seatmate, Rachael, used to give me a lot of CDs and told me to watch and return whenever I liked, I remember watching “The K2”, “Killer Girl”, and “Blood”. To be honest, they were not bad so I started developing a little interest in k-drama.

Also, I had a friend named Fiyin, initially, we weren’t close, in fact, I never pictured us being friends but as fate would have it, we surprisingly became friends. Fiyin has a somewhat bougie lifestyle, trying to maintain fluent speaking, segregating her relationships with people, and looking down on mere strangers. In other words, she held her self-esteem so high, I had no problem with that, but sometimes she does it too much.

Fiyin also watched K-dramas. Rachael and I asked her to bring some for us a few days before our holiday, but she usually forgot. It was the last day of school, and Rachael suggested we go to Fiyin’s house to collect the CDs, so we would be able to watch them during the holiday. Fiyin agreed after some begging, and even though her house was quite far, we didn't mind the walk.

Soon, we reached her street, but before we reached the T-junction, she stopped us and asked us to wait by a church, she claimed that she didn’t want her mum to complain about us.

We didn’t really care, we waited. After a few minutes of waiting, Racheal suggested we go check to see if she was coming because she was taking quite a lot of time and also to see where she stayed.

I agreed, so we went to check, we found her coming out of a tiny house (a face-me-I-face-you), just by the T-junction, this type of house consists of a set of rooms or room and parlor facing each other but separated by a walkway, it is the cheapest kind of house, one can rent. This house was not just a face-me-I-face-you house, but it was looking rather tattered, some part of the ceiling was even broken.

Immediately, we sighted her, we ran like crazy back to our initial position. Soon, Fiyin arrived with a lot of CDs, we didn’t say anything, we just selected the CD. I was trying to keep Rachael from laughing at this point.

As we were going back home, we suggested that we take the upper route (the right path of the T-junction) back home, instead of the way we came, although both ways led home. I also suggested that Fiyin show us her house on the way. There was a bit of hesitation, but she had no choice.

At T-junction, this girl surprised me, heheh, I was shocked to the bone when she pointed at a duplex, all tiled up and nice. Wow! This girl claimed this beautiful house was hers, the audacity! Hehe.

The funniest part is they were houses that were quite okay and medium but Fiyin as the big girl that she is chose the biggest around. Rachael had already moved away to laugh her heart out, but I managed to compose myself, I stayed surprised and complimented her on her house.

A week later, I remembered that my note was with Fiyin, I needed it before we resumed. I called Rachael to follow me to Fiyin’s house since I didn’t really recognize the route, I called Fiyin but she didn’t respond.

Upon getting there, we were confused about where to go, haha, is it the real house or the fake house? Are we supposed to go and knock on someone else’s house? Hehe.

Since she didn’t pick up, we went straight to her house, we initially went and asked the co-tenants. They told us Fiyin was in the backyard washing clothes. A young girl helped us call her out.

I was holding my laughter while waiting to see her reaction. Fiyin came out in wrappers, shouted “Yeee!” and ran back with shock or fear, I wasn’t sure, at this moment I burst into laughter, and I had to call her out, saying I wanted to collect my workbook.

I teased her that we went to her big house but they told us that she felt like staying in her small house today. Embarrassment washed over her, she kept smiling cheaply not knowing what to say. Rachael on the other end was laughing hard, and I thought “This Rachael can really disgrace someone”

I don’t have any problem with anyone living in a small house but lying is what I find unnecessary, who was she afraid of? of - me or Rachael? Really, us? She didn’t find the lie that was according to her size but she chose a *duplex lie. It is the confidence for me, heheh.

From that day, her attitude changed a bit but I still teased her and called her “duplex madam”
