Steamy Winter Nights

Where is this old gal going now, I hear you say!

Winter finally seems to have settled in, but we're loving it as we have mild winters in our subtropical climate. Warm sunny days, and chilly nights!
Unlike the Cape of Storms where some of our Hivers live and have been experiencing high-intensity rainfall and extreme cold, thinking of you all!

I have two besties in winter - the electric blanket and an Essential Oil Diffuser, a gift from our son.
I use it at my desk and breathe in the wafts of aromatic steam. When it's lights out, the ever-changing colours have me mesmerized before I fall asleep.

We have guests coming from near and far and of course, they bring visitors of the alien kind to our BnB - strains of flu from all corners of the globe, so the hubs and I end up with sudden aches and pains, a tad chesty and nasally at times. We're still swallowing immune boosters courtesy of our son, but our immune system must be getting stronger as it's winning battles with these unwanted visitors who piggyback on our guests!

We've also been dosing ourselves up with Pomelo Juice from our garden, with the addition of gorgeous fresh Ginger which does wonders for digestion as well.

Hey, she's trying to give us health tips now, I hear you say, but these gifts from nature really work.

Garlic is another secret remedy - nature's antibiotic, said to ward off evil spirits as well ;)
I crush it, add Olive Oil, and either use it as a dip for sourdough or home-baked bread or spoon it over our meals. Ginger tea helps ward off the pungent Garlic smells.

Comfort food regularly appears on the menu; a steamy bowl of homemade Vegetable Soup, and a homemade Curried Mince Pie with fresh veggies.

An old lunch favourite is grilled Cheese & Tomato open sandwiches, with thin slices of Garlic and Basil added, really yum!

Gosh, I hear you say, she's on about food all the time, is this #foodiesbeehive or #silverbloggers?

I hear you, but this is just a way of sharing the days of life as a Silver, and cooking is one of my hobbies after all!

As most of you know, I'm supposed to be retired, are any of our Silver Bloggers REALLY retired?
I run our BnB from home, a great way to make our property work for us, but every so often messy guests take over. The young wealthy spoilt girls are the worst, big ones and small ones! Lovely people who came for a family celebration, but I now know why their aunt hosted the older generation in her home and booked the younger ones into our BnB!

We had a mountain of linen when they checked out; every blanket was taken out of the cupboards, something we don't even use as it's not that cold in Durban, a fluffy throw and duvet is quite enough warmth, but not for these young girlies!

Fortunately, our Bongikosi is calm, very organized, young, and fit, unlike his old Ma Lizzie!
Hubby and I were exhausted at the end of the day, as we had a same-day check-in, so it was all hands on deck.
We survived, and really think that all the running up and down is what keeps us fit.

Mr. Poe has become the boss; bullies us when he wants food or attention, mostly the latter; but he really is the funniest cat ever, more like a puppy than a cat!

He lives a royal life; eats and lazes around in all his favourite spots, lying in the weirdest positions. He has become like a real grandchild, and we're already getting worried about him when we go away for just over six weeks at the end of next month.
Our flights are finally booked for our visit to our son and his gal in the Netherlands, we simply can't wait, but do worry about our Poe, even though he's a real warrior!

Poe's favourite time of the day is when he's allowed to sleep by our feet while we're having coffee in bed; what a life!

iHeart electric blankets. Traveling around the US for my career, the RV always had one.

I loved it. Fellas enjoyed taking a shot at me like awe, whats the matter, California, too cold for you?

Yes! Anything below 70 and what 70 translates to in Celsius is freezing.

Hehe, it looks like Mr. Poe is not stressed or fazed by the comings and goings of the BnB guests.

I'm glad you already have the airplane tickets for the trip. Mr. Poe will be fine but he will probably treat you with indifference for a few days when you get back.
