From Classroom Besties to Silvery Pals - The Circle of Life

(Edited)

Moving through the eternal clock of life with heads held high, facing the sun, or running at full pace as there's so much to do, yet so little time. Other times we walk with our heads drooping, and feet dragging, as life throws those awful curveballs our way.

Life is a rollercoaster of surprises, with thrilling highs, exciting twists and turns, but also filled with painful plunges where we find ourselves nosediving, and falling very hard!

Ain't it strange how a loss sometimes brings back something we lost along the way? I find that just downright confusing!

Busyness, while going about our daily business, is natural, but how sad that it often takes a loss to rekindle old friendships!

I love how our little circle is reflected in the pond;)

Yes, I know, too many exclamation marks, but I am shouting out, as the clock of life keeps on turning, while precious time is running out!

All our senior silvers will remember the old song by The Byrds - Turn, Turn, Turn about the seasons of life, with lyrics based on a profound biblical verse.

The lyrics written by Pete Seeger, resonate more so now, as I face a new season in my life.

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep....

Lyrics by Pete Seeger

People come and go, touching our lives with their own uniqueness, and we never stop learning life lessons from each other, which ultimately shapes our destiny, not so.

Had I chosen a different career path, I would never have met my darling soulmate, nor had the two beautiful sons I now have, both reminding me of their Dad, even though their characters are poles apart! Really, really strange, but so wonderful, there is no mistaking that it was written in the stars!

What was I talking about in the beginning, about something I lost along the path of life?

Old friendships of course, while not truly lost, often seem to fade away, courtesy of the hustle and bustle of life, but that's just a natural part of the ebb and flow of life, not so! another exclamation mark lizelle, stop it now!

A big sigh...time waits for no one, but it's never too late.

Rekindling old friendships is something I've been doing since the loss of the love of my life. It's been so heartwarming seeing those old friends again, almost like my darling man rounded up the troops to comfort me during this very dark season of my life, and I'm starting to build wonderful new memories.

Yes, life is strange indeed with its twists and turns; I think I have said that already, but it really is worth repeating!

Meeting up with my bestie from school days this past week at the beautiful old Botanic Gardens, was a balm to the soul indeed. We strolled, stopped, and talked, non-stop, as there was way too much catching up to do!

Walking underneath the canopy of giant old trees, into the sunshine at the lake, being entranced by the natural wonder around us, and simply enjoying being together again under the warm African sun.

There will be new adventures, I know, starting with the long-awaited journey to our son. Bittersweet yes, as I still find it difficult to come to terms that there now is only me, not us or we in the here and now, but, I still see myself as part of a we!

The words engraved into stone behind the foot of the two pillars carrying the old bell, remind me that I have to pick up my head; live, love, and toil with a will, while the clock is still turning, as...

Our journey is not yet over till the fat lady sings an echo of my Mother from years ago. Picking up with old friends face to face to chat a wonderful experience.

Sons will always be close, strange each similar yet miles apart in character.

Finding your feet is exactly what needs to be, life carries on, we never know what tomorrow may bring.

That echo of your Mom certainly is true, even though it feels like life has come to an end! Thank goodness for friends and family, Joan, and so nice that I can turn to my chain friends when the big old house feels too empty xxx

After your holiday make decisions when you return, holding onto large properties is no fun on your own.

Tried to tell my sister-in-law that five years ago, my younger sister has taken two years with her home on the market, sold eventually, being signed off in coming weeks all going well, she too found it too much to handle with children now adults and on the move.

Take care!

Thank you Joan, I am looking at options but will stay at least another two years. Fortunately hubby taught our gardener how to do the basic diy jobs, and the bnb is running well, especially now with no more meals, but I will look at moving to a smaller place for the over 55s close to my brother and his wife. The area is deteriorating fast, we were like looking at selling but could not decide on where to go, Arthur's heart was with the sea.

Life is exactly a rollercoaster ride, as you have said, Mrs. @lizelle.
I was stunned for a while when I finished your post. It makes me move and ponder whether people my age can pursue the hope of a long life and live the circle of life like you.
I really enjoyed the first photo of you inside the circle gate and its reflection in the water.
Reconnecting and continuing old friendships opens up memories of the past and, on the other hand, re-energizes and encourages someone, right?

So right, it really lifted my spirits seeing my old pal!
We were fortunate with that lovely photo, as we asked a guy walking near us who obviously is a passionate photographer, to take it with my friend's cellphone.
The day was a real tonic :)

What a beautifully written post, @lizelle. Poignant, yet written without regret and still looking forward. Anyone would think you had life all figured out!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and sending best wishes to help you on into the new week and beyond :-)

PS. You can NEVER have too many exclamation marks!

Oh dear, @nathen007, wish I could say that I have it figured out. Grief certainly has one seesawing between emotions, one minute up, and the next way down!

Nice to see you agree that exclamation marks help express one's feelings!
Thank you for the good wishes!

Hehe, 'senior' silvers sound better than older silvers, and I'm sure many of our 'junior' silvers have not heard that old song.
You're going to have your hands full if we have to start a grading system here🙈
I've truly been blessed with crossing paths with so many awesome people in my life, even here on Hive.
Thank you and a big hug from one of the seniors 🤗

It's good that you are recharging with good times again, I'm sure you were happy.
Life is like that, I have always said that people come into your life for a specific reason and then they have to leave.
