I lost my wedding ring for two years

I give you this ring as a token of my love and a sign of our marriage
I promise to care for you with love and respect
And will support and comfort you
Through the good times, and the troubled times
With love and patience

20230306_230846.jpg

Ever since the vows on my wedding day, I've been wearing my wedding ring. Hubby prefers to wear his as a pendant. He told me he's allergic to rings when we first got married. Mmmm ..... Really? Or are you allergic to marriage, I thought?? Luckily, his 'allergy' has had no impact on our marriage, and we're still together after all these years.
20230306_175924.jpg

I normally wear two rings, my wedding ring and a Russian wedding ring. The latter has nothing to do with my marriage. I saw it at Covent Garden in London years ago even before I got married. It's made of silver and I was attracted to its unique design with three bands that sits perfectly on top of one another. I can even roll them along my finger if they're positioned correctly.
20230306_181410.jpg

I normally remove my rings at home and only wear them when I go out. During Covid in the past few years, I didn't wear them most of the time as we were in lockdown. Then about two years ago, one day I suddenly realized I couldn't find my wedding ring 😬. I searched up and down at home, and to be honest, there weren't that many places to look because I was living in temporary accommodation and didn't have much furniture. I even looked into every pocket of my clothes but to no avail. In the end, I reckon I must have removed it at home, put it in my jeans pocket, forgot about it, and it got lost at the laundrette. Bummer!!! 😭😭😭

It was very annoying, but I wasn't totally devasted. I mean I'm not really a possessions person, and a marriage isn't defined by a ring. Ring or no ring we're still in love and together, and that's what matters.😍

Recently, I returned to Taiwan to pick up my belongings. The other day I was going through one of my trinket boxes and when I opened it, I was gobsmacked. My wedding ring was inside!!! It was in Taiwan all these years when I was in UK. How is that possible? Why did I not wear it when I returned to UK? Why did I wear my russion wedding ring but not my wedding ring? That is soooooo odd.
20230305_124414.jpg

Anyway, I was so happy to be reunited with my wedding ring which I thought I'd lost two years ago. But oh no!!! One problem .... it doesn't fit me now. I know, it must be the heat in Taiwan and my fingers has swollen up. Or maybe .... I've put on weight these few years 😭😭😭
20230305_124006.jpg

In the meanwhile, my little angels are looking after my rings for me to make sure I don't lose them again. Thank you Snowpea and Mary

What a story, I'm so glad you could find the ring. My husband used to take his ring off in order to wash his hands or take a bath, but he kept forgetting where he'd put it, so now he wears it all the time 😂

I think it's one of those things you do without thinking, taking your ring off and placing it somewhere convenient and the whole movement is so natural that you forget where you put it. A bit like you lock your front door when you leave home and put your key in your bag, then two minutes later you think, have I locked my front door!!

At least your husband won't lose his ring now!!!

Ring or no ring we're still in love and together, and that's what matters.

That sounds so cute, omg.

I'd say I understand your husband a little bit, I have a sort of repulsion to rings. I don't know why I don't like them, just looking at them makes me feel repulsion, the same thing happens to me with earrings T_T

Glad to hear you got your ring back tho!! Can the heat make your fingers swell? I had no idea that could happen.

Heat can do that to your hands and feet, something to do with the blood vessels, I believe it's called heat edema. And I guess it's a combination of me putting on weight as well 😅

Your story put a smile on my face today, thanks, was so funny and sad at first, but its true marriage is not suppose to be decided by a tittle or a ring, its a commitment, I was feeling a bit down because of all the AI drama with Hive then read your post and remind me there still good, original, fun content out there ✌️

All this AI thing is very frustrating for content creation, and I hope people can understand why it is not welcome on Hive. I know this isn't top quality content, but at least it's real and personal, and that's what Hive is about.

Totally agree, I feel its a trend, as bear and bull markets come and go those creating content with AI will go a way as real Hive users stop upvoting them and others downvote them

Or are you allergic to marriage, I thought??

😂

I’ve few friends who used pendulums with success to find back some lost items, and rings by the way.. Apparently they can do that with just a simple plan of the house :)

My mother lost her during a beach session... definitely lost for her, but not for the archeologists of future ^^ !

Good you found it back :D

Oh dear! I hope your mother wasn't too upset about it, I know some people have a strong attachment to their wedding ring and feel so very lost without it

It was maybe the most absurd moment of my life ^^ We search one hour in the sand in the middle of the waves... Pointless research anyway..! But she finally made a new one :)

What a nice surprise! Glad to see you are finally back to TW and reunite with your belongings.
Love the design of your Russian ring, and I bought a pair of handmade silver earrings also in Covent Garden... so many lovely jewelries there!

Covent Garden is lovely for handmade stuff, I love wandering around their when I'm in London, which is not as often as I'd like to be.

I side with your husband. I had to stop wearing my wedding ring because I kept getting a rash. Yes, it was real gold. The problem is, my finger sweat and the rubbing kept irritating my skin so I'd have a red mark that would start to hurt. So, I told my husband I was "allergic" to rings.

Anyway, he almost lost his finger wearing his, and it was so bent after that incident, that he stopped wearing his, too.

We've been married for 42 years. We'd rather have each other than those rings!

Absolutely true. The rings are a symbolic stage of the wedding, but ultimately what matters is being together forever, that is eternity. Your pair of rings can be together wherever you keep them.

Wow, that is totally odd. I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have my ring. It is pretty much a part of me now. There are days that I wouldn't be able to get it off even if I wanted to. I am glad you found your ring!

I still don't know why wore one ring and not the other when I left for UK. It is really odd as I always pick up both rings at the same time. And it's even odder than I didn't notice it until at least a year after I returned to UK. Weird.

At least you'll never lose your ring, it will be with you forever!!

Congratulations 👏, like you said marriage is not all about weeding ring rather it all about the love and commitment of the two people called husband and wife.
More to that some people are allergic to rings, bangles and chains so they can't use it but in there honest hearts they wanted to use it.
Thank JEHOVAH your marriage is still intact.

It's unfortunate when people are allergic to jewellery because they can be very pretty and often hold special meaning, especially when presented as gifts. Luckily, my husband's allergy didn't impact our marriage

Very nice to hear a story with a happy ending!! A real story no less!! 😉👍

Truly happy for you. I can imagine the surprise that you had upon learning the "rest of the story," even though hard to imagine it.

I lost my original wedding band on a memorable hike in the mountains. Part of the day was one of the very few times in my life (typically very "sure-footed" ...) I fell, when "sort of" rock climbing. We actually were in a very narrow canyon and I slipped on the debris on top of a boulder on which I was standing, while looking over my shoulder to see where my friend was ...

Bad move ...

To this day, I think my guardian angel helped me land in the rocks below, about 8 feet down. While sitting there dazed, I was "processing" the metallic ringing (gold makes a distinctive ...) sound I heard at about the same time. Looking at my hands to check for "damage," I realized it was the sound of my wedding ring which had come off my finger. It was down in the rocks below me ...

Shaken, but mobile, I went on from there. I'll never forget sitting at the top of the waterfall and the rock face (free climbing) I had to either "negotiate" or go a very long way back up the way we had come. Apparently ... I made it ... 😉

With the help of my firstborn son, later I climbed back up to the exact location. Of that I was certain. With a metal detector and crowbars, we spent an afternoon trying to get down to where my ring might be.

Nope ... Not possible. The rocks were too big ...

Thankfully, my beloved forgave me and we bought another one. We're still married almost 47 years later ... 🙏❤️🙏

Ouch! That sounds like a nasty 8 feet fall, it must have been quite an impact if your ring fell off. I can't imagine how frustrated you felt, knowing the ring was there somewhere, but not able to see it, so near yet so far.

There was nothing you could have done about it, and as you say, your guardian angel was there, otherwise it could have been quite a bad fall onto the rocks. I'm sure your wife was please that you arrived home in one healthy piece, that is a lot more important that the lost ring. Gold anniversary coming up in a few years time!!! That is something to look forward to!!

Glad you found it.

My wife’s friend visited us from Australia a few months ago and she had lost her wedding band too. She was gesturing with her hand and after a quick movement, it just slipped off her finger and was gone. My wife happened to have the same ring one size smaller, so she sent it to her and she’s been using that ever since and still hasn’t told her husband the story. 🤣

My mom lost her wedding ring once too, probably in a similar way to you. She most likely took it off at night and somehow it ended up someplace else.

I’m guessing this happens fairly often around the world.

What!! I can't believe she's wearing a replacement ring!! But how fortunate your wife had the same one that fit her.

It really odd how things get lost, especially these small items that we take off often. Did your mom find her ring back? Because you said she lost it once.

I don’t think she ever did, but I’m not sure. I know she had the ring insured and used the insurance money to buy a new one, but as far as I know, the original ring never turned up again. And it was one of those things where she says she took it off when night and the next day, or whenever she noticed it, it was just gone.

So happy for you that you found it again :-)
Maybe it was the same issue back then... it was uncomfortable on your finger because of the warm weather and you put it in that box for a while :-)

I'm not sure what happened, because I always pick up both rings at the same time, so I don't know why I wore one and not the other. It's really mind boggling

What a nice tragedy and lucky to have found it, what a pity that now for lack of use it has shrunk hahahahahaha, I wish I had the same luck to find my lost dentures that I lost a year ago and cost me 300 dollars.

I'll have to go on a diet to make sure I can wear my ring again. I can wear it now, but it's a tight fit, so I don't want to risk not being able to take it off.

How did you manage to lose your dentures? It's quite big....

🤣😂 These are some teeth, not all.

I went one day when I ate chicken and I took it out to clean my teeth and I don't remember where I put it, maybe the dog ate it, no matter how hard I looked under the ground, I couldn't find it and I had to spend 300 dollars again on a new one.

This is a secret, don't let anyone know because I will be disqualified in the Hive top model 😜🙈🤣

Good you found it though.

While I haven't lost my wedding ring, I can relate to losing something and then finding it in what seems like a very unlikely place.

Interesting story about losing wedding rings. Shortly after my folks were married my dad was working on the car and lost his ring. They knew (or guessed) that it had to be somewhere in the driveway, but after looking for days they just couldn't find it.

Flash forward 20 years when they were selling the house to upgrade to a bigger one. While cutting the grass on a strip of land between their driveway and the neighbor's driveway, my dad caught sight of something shiny. It was his ring! Funny how it finally decided to reveal itself just as they were leaving that place forever.

Anyway, congrats on finding yours!

Wow!!! What an incredible story!!! And it was sitting there for 20 years!! I imagine you had rain, snow, mud and god knows what on the driveway over those two decades. It's a good thing the driveway wasn't re-tarmac!! Sounded like the ring had a life of its own and wanted to make sure your dad didn't leave without it. What a lovely end to lost ring story!

The last part was fun seeing it doesn't fit your finger anymore .reminded me of my mom's.. It's too difficult to remove the wedding ring from her finger because she truly gained so much weight 😂.. Sometimes she would use oil to remove it.. It works.. My father lost his ring too.. But as you said, marriage isn't defined by a ring.. So far, they are still together after so many struggles in their marriage..

I think I can force the ring over my knuckle but it feels quite tight and I'm worried I can't take it off again. Time to go on diet, because I'm pretty sure I have put on weight since going returning to Taiwan.

Congrats on your parent longevity marriage and getting over all the struggles!

Awww, so glad you have finally found your wedding ring, dear livingUKTaiwan. There are really those times that even if we searched everywhere, we could not really find what we are looking for, but then, at a least expected time, it just shows up.

Your finger has swollen a bit, but I believe it will fwhen it is wet and you rolled it down with a thread or twist slowly going downwards until the end of the ring finger.

Big smiles, best regards and as well to Snowpea and Mary.

I'm so happy you were reunited with your wedding ring @livinguktaiwan!
I also have a story to tell, but it's about my Mom's wedding ring. When I was a teen, the old people believed if you slept with a piece of wedding cake and a wedding ring stuck into it, under your pillow, you'd dream of the man you were going to marry :):) Crazy hey! So Mom lent me her wedding ring, I forgot about it, went to school and when I got back home, our cleaning lady, who used to smuggle in alcohol and have a tipple or two in between her duties, had not seen it.
I was hysterical, but Dad calmly told me that we would go and buy another wedding ring. Money was scarce, but Dad made a plan, so he and I went off to the jewelry shop the next Saturday and chose a new wedding ring. A couple of weeks later, Mom found the ring in a drawer, still wrapped in greaseproof paper inside the wedding cake. She obviously started her tipple way too early, stuck it in the drawer after making my bed, and could not remember. Mom felt sorry for her, but she eventually stopped coming to work, very sad.
Mom wore two wedding rings from that day on, they were thin bands, and happily sat next to each other.
When Mom passed on, we were so distraught that we forgot to take her rings off, so the hearse left, only to come back an hour or so later, much to our shock. They came to return the 2 wedding rings!
I think Mom must have had a good old chuckle from wherever her 'forever home' was:):)

My husband and I got married without wedding rings as we were holding our kids (a one-year-old son and a newborn baby girl) during the ceremony. I lost the ring in Singapore, a gold ring given to me by my mother. The husband and I are not into pieces of jewelry. So, the rings don't matter at all. XD
