Hello friends of WEEKEND EXPERIENCES today I join this community because I really liked that within the aspects of writings proposed by @galenkp was one related to the history of a monument, this is something that fascinates me , I am a great fan of monuments, their history and their designs , so without thinking twice I decided to write.
Yesterday Saturday I went shopping with my husband to downtown Havana and I passed near the Plaza 13 de Marzo, which is located at the beginning of Agramonte Street and Bélgica Avenue, in front of the Havana Bay Tunnel, when I saw the monument I took pictures, it is a statue, very beautiful made in bronze, of our national hero José Martí Pérez.

This sculpture arrived in the country on October 7, 2017and was inaugurated in that square on January 28, 2018, date of the birth of José Martí, it was made by the American artist Anna Hyatt Huntingto, is an exact copy of the original located in Central Park in New York, which was a gift from Cuba to this city before 1959. It was placed in this square on a large black marble pedestal, it is the only statue in the country that reflects the death in combat of José Martí on May 19, 1895.
José Martí was a tireless fighter in Cuba and in exile for our country to achieve its dreamed independence and stop being a colony of Spain. He was the founder of the Cuban Revolutionary Party, in addition to organizing the war to achieve independence. He was also a great writer and orator. He wrote books and poems for children, such as: La Edad de Oro, Ismaelillo, Versos Sencillos, I cannot imagine a Cuban child who has not read at least some of his verses. He was a great essayist, the best known of which was "El presidio político en Cuba", which he experienced firsthand. He was a great journalist and philosopher.

All the Cuban people, from children to the elderly, revere José Martí, his political influence, his writings, the unconditional love he showed to his country, his tireless fight against discrimination, his work has remained forever for all Cubans.
Well friends with few words I have told you a little of this monument, its history and the meaning of our national hero, greetings to all and take advantage of the information. See you soon.

A lovely monument and write up on what it stands for. These things I think are so often taken for granted, it's always good to see that people still take notice of these things and revere the history behind them.
