It's been a week since I've been able to write on my blog. I had taken a few days of vacation and to that was added that here in Cuba we have been going through very difficult times due to a power outage that left us in the dark for three days, which prevented me from accessing the internet. Fortunately, everything is back to normal and I am here to tell you how were those vacation days we took before all this process.

We had made a previous reservation for a hotel in Playa Varadero, located in the province of Matanzas. In this post, I want to share with you how was our trip to the province of Matanzas, a trip we made with a lot of illusion and joy.

We left Havana at 10:00 AM on a bus that would pick us up close to home, at the Sala Polivalente, right in front of the bus terminal of the Plaza municipality. The excitement was palpable as we boarded the bus, full of joy and expectations.

Hace una semana que no he podido escribir en mi blog. Habia tomado unos dias de vacaciones y a eso se le sumó que aquí en Cuba hemos estado pasando por momentos muy difíciles debido a un colapso energético que nos dejó a oscuras durante tres días, lo que me impidió acceder a internet. Afortunadamente, todo ha vuelto a la normalidad y estoy aquí para contarles cómo fueron esos días de vacaciones que tomamos antes de todo este proceso.
Habíamos hecho una reserva previa para un hotel en Playa Varadero, situado en la provincia de Matanzas. En este post, quiero compartir con vosotros cómo fue nuestro viaje a la provincia de Matanzas, un viaje que hicimos con mucha ilusión y alegría.
Salimos de La Habana a las 10:00 AM en un autobús que nos recogería cerca de casa, en la Sala Polivalente, justo enfrente de la terminal de autobuses del municipio Plaza. La emoción era palpable cuando subimos al autobús, llenos de alegría y expectativas.

The day dawned a little rainy and we were filled with worry knowing that our destination was the beach. Cubans are in the habit of saying that “it never rains in Varadero Beach”. The truth is that, as we approached the viewpoint of Bacunayagua Bridge, in the province of Mayabeque, a beautiful place that is always a must visit every time you travel to Matanzas, the atmosphere was already clear and the sun was shining.

As soon as the tour guide who animated the trip told us about the little stop at the place we were very happy because we really like the views it offers and the place itself, it is always being renewed.

El día amaneció un poco lluvioso y nos llenamos de preocupación sabiendo que nuestro destino era la playa. Los cubanos tienen la costumbre de decir que «en Playa Varadero nunca llueve». Lo cierto es que, a medida que nos acercábamos al mirador del Puente de Bacunayagua, en la provincia de Mayabeque, un hermoso lugar que siempre es visita obligada cada vez que se viaja a Matanzas, el ambiente ya estaba despejado y el sol brillaba.
En cuanto el guía turístico que animaba el viaje nos habló de la pequeña parada en el lugar nos pusimos muy contentos porque nos gustan mucho las vistas que ofrece y el lugar en sí, siempre se está renovando.

The place is, as its name suggests, a great viewpoint from where you can see the entire Bacunayagua Bridge, the highest in the country, which divides the provinces of Mayabeque and Matanzas, as well as impressive views of the Yumurí Valley. From the top, you can see majestic palm trees standing proudly, and the whole landscape is perceived in a tiny way, as if we were watching a miniature world. The feeling of having that view in front of us was simply mesmerizing.

To further enhance the experience, there are binoculars available that allow us to observe every detail more clearly. Through them, we were able to appreciate the lush vegetation and the tranquility of the place, which made this moment truly unforgettable. At the viewpoint there is a nice cafeteria and a place where they prepare Piña Coladas. We took the opportunity to have a snack while enjoying the spectacular view, feeling in harmony with nature.

El lugar es, como su nombre lo indica, un gran mirador desde donde se observa todo el Puente Bacunayagua, el mas alto del pais, que divide las provincias Mayabeque y Matanzas, además de unas vistas impresionantes del Valle de Yumurí. Desde lo alto, se pueden ver majestuosas palmas que se alzan orgullosas, y todo el paisaje se percibe de una forma minúscula, como si estuviéramos observando un mundo en miniatura. La sensación de tener esa vista frente a nosotros era simplemente fascinante.
Para mejorar aún más la experiencia, hay prismáticos disponibles que permiten observar cada detalle con mayor claridad. A través de ellos, pudimos apreciar la exuberante vegetación y la tranquilidad del lugar, lo que hizo de este momento algo realmente inolvidable. En el mirador hay una bonita cafetería y un punto donde preparan Piñas Coladas. Aprovechamos para tomar un refrigerio mientras disfrutábamos de la espectacular vista, sintiéndonos en armonía con la naturaleza.

In addition, there was a large Craft Fair on a lower level of the main building of the lookout, which left us in awe. We walked through the stalls, amazed by the creativity of the local artisans. There was a wide variety of leather goods, paintings, wood carvings, handbags and woven clothing pieces. Each object was a work of art, reflecting the rich culture and talent of the region's artisans.

Además, habia una gran Feria Artesanal en un nivel inferior de la construcción principal del mirador, que nos dejó maravillados. Caminamos a través de los puestos, sorprendidos por la creatividad de los artesanos locales. Había una gran variedad de artículos de cuero, pinturas, tallas en madera, bolsos y piezas de ropa tejida. Cada objeto era una obra de arte, reflejando la rica cultura y el talento de los artesanos de la región.

We continued touring the place, where there are several guano ranches that combine very well with the environment and its vegetation, and where they offer other gastronomic offerings. We approached one of them to enjoy a delicious café cortado, in my particular case, I love it.

Seguimos recorriendo el lugar, donde hay varios ranchos de guano que combinan muy bien con el entorno y su vegetación, y donde ofrecen otras ofertas gastronómicas. Nos acercamos a uno de ellos para disfrutar de un delicioso café cortado, en mi caso particular, me encanta.

We strolled a little more around the place, but soon we had to get back on the bus, as the stop at this point is only 30 minutes. We continued on our way to the province of Matanzas.

When the bus descended the small hill where the viewpoint is located, we went over the bridge and the driver drove very slowly so that we could all observe well and live that beautiful experience and take pictures.

Paseamos un poco más por el lugar, pero pronto tuvimos que subir de nuevo al autobús, ya que la parada en este punto es sólo de 30 minutos. Continuamos nuestro camino hacia la provincia de Matanzas.
Cuando el ómnibus descendió por la pequeña colina donde se encuentra el mirador, pasamos por el puente y el chofer condujo muy despacio para que todos pudiéramos observar bien y vivir esa hermosa experiencia y tomaramos fotos.

A few meters away we were entering the beautiful province of Matanzas, which Cubans call “The Athens of Cuba” for its cultural and literary development.
