"One lovely couple of doves has visited our yard"

That's the title of my post today, a post that is an entry to the contest ran by a fellow blogger that I follow and respect.

The sounds of the doves relaxes and chills me out a lot, I have to admit. It is like music to my ears! :) So I was attracted to these repetitive sounds and took my camera after I saw that lovely feathered couple is not afraid of me and allows me to approach them, of course, I used a telephoto lens and the distance is about 4-7 meters.

I love taking photos too, and I do so prolifically, but I can't seem to get good shots of birds! It's kind of ridiculous! I love morning doves! Their song is so distinctive, and gives me nostalgia for my childhood growing up in rural SW New Jersey, where they would sing in the late afternoons. Thanks for sharing your feathered friends! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Oh, I have traveled a few time on business to South Brunswik :) I may have been close to your home :)
If you're asking me for a photo advice, I shoot birds in manual or shutter priority mode.
The exposure times usually have to be less than 1/2000 s. However, if the bird is resting, in could be dialed down to let's say 1/640. But if it is flying, 1/4000 may be optimal. Not all of the cameras support 1/8000 or higher speed ;)

That's cool that you've traveled there before! South Brunswick is still quite far north. I grew up in the south west of the state, out in the country. I wasn't specifically asking for photography advise, but I am grateful that you took the time to give it. Since I presently only have my Android phone as my camera, I propobably wouldn't be able to apply your suggestions until I got an actual camera. Birds are fast buggers indeed! My pleasure. Most of the phones also have sort-of manual override of the automatic mode. Some allow for full manual as well.
Probably the right mode for the purpose is called "Sports" mode.
Anyway :)
