My Splinterlands Investment: Profit, ROI and Considerations - 35 Months Later
It was 18 October 2019 when I decided to try playing Splinterlands and bought my Spellbook which was called the Starter Set at the time.
It has therefore been more than 35 months since I joined Splinterlands and in 6 days I will celebrate my third Splinterlands anniversary :)
Today, almost three months after my last Splinterlands report, I want to update and share the financial analysis of my Splinterlands investment

Final Result Previous Report
The starting point for each of my financial reports on Splinterlands is the result I recorded in my previous report, a report I published on 31 July 2022, 73 days ago, on my Hive blog.
In my previous report I recorded the following financial results:
- Profit: +15077.24$
- ROI: +2440.20%
Evaluation of Splinterlands as an Investment
(35 months later)
Total Investment Cost
Note: In calculating the total cost of my investment in Splinterlands I only consider the costs I incurred by injecting external liquidity into the game.
For example, purchases of NFTs I made using in-game rewards (DEC and SPS) or by selling Splinterlands assets in my possession are not costs but are a simple reallocation of resources to different assets.
For many months I have not added external liquidity to my investment and therefore the total cost of my investment has remained unchanged.
In this report I have to record an increase in the total investment cost because on 7 September 2022 I purchased 300 token VOUCHER to be ready for the Presale Tower Defense which started on 20 September 2022.
Since the difference between the revenue I got from the sale of the VOUCHER tokens and the cost I incurred for the purchase I made on 7 September is a negative value the total cost of my investment on Splinterlands increases by $21.03 from my previous report and is now $638.90.
Total Revenue Value = Total Assets Value
The total revenues I got by investing on Splinterlands is the result of the sum of the market value of all the assets I own (NFTs and tokens).
The value of my card collection
Thanks to the My Cards section of the very useful website of Peakmonsters it is immediate and easy to know:
- the total number of cards in my collection
- the total and current value of my card collection according to list prices and market prices.
Today, 12 October 2022, my card collection consists of a total of 4049 cards and a total of 14639 BCX.
In 73 days I have increased the number of BCX by +555.
Compared to 73 days ago, the value of my card collection has increased by +2.71%:
- 31 July 2022: 11425.18$
- 10 October 2022: 11734.57$
The value of my DEC tokens
DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) tokens are the native tokens of the Splinterlands game, they are second level tokens of the Hive blockchain and are utility tokens because they have so many use cases.
With the change in Ranked Battles rewards, DEC tokens can no longer be earned from in-game activities and with this change they have decreased their emission but kept all use cases.
Anticipating an increase in the value of DEC tokens I have long since and before the replacement of DEC tokens with SPS tokens in Ranked Battles rewards tried to increase the amount of DEC tokens in my possession by selling some cards that I did not use in battle.
In my In-Game wallet I have a total amount of 181021.79 DEC tokens**.
In my Hive Engine/TribalDex wallet I have 750916.32 DEC tokens.
I have decided to invest in the Diesel Pool SWAP.HIVE-DEC in which I have 508967.50 DEC.
The total number of DEC tokens in my possession is therefore 1440905.63 DEC.
Today October 12, 2022, 1 DEC token has a value of 0.001274 SWAP.HIVE = $0.000657(Highest Bid) and 1440905.63 DEC tokens have a current value of 1835.97 HIVE = $947.36.
Revenue from the sale of DEC tokens on Hive Engine
Among the revenue I must also record the gain I made on 5 October 2020 from the sale of 81000 DEC tokens that I used to do a Power Up of 400 HP on my beloved Hive.
Today 12 October 2022 400 HIVE tokens have a value of $206.40.
Starting in September, I started trading DEC tokens with the aim of increasing my investment in the SWAP.HIVE-DEC pool.
I am not a trader, but my first trades of selling and then buying DEC tokens allowed me to keep the amount of DEC tokens unchanged and make a profit of 119.67911 SWAP.HIVE.
The value of my PLOT tokens
One of the most awaited future implementations for Splinterlands players is the introduction of the Lands.
On 21 November 2020 I purchased 3 PLOTS at a total cost of 22500 DEC (7500 DEC per plot)
Today, a PLOT token can only be purchased from the Dex of the second level tokens of the Hive blockchain such as https://tribaldex.com/trade/PLOT.
Today's market value of a PLOT is:
- 412.99 SWAP.HIVE = $215.19 (Lowest ASK).
- 400.00 SWAP.HIVE = $208.42 (Highest BID)
The three PLOT tokens in my possession have a total market value of 1200 SWAP.HIVE = $619.20.
The value of the token Splintershards (SPS)
To date, I have accumulated a total of 43590.98 token Splintershards (SPS).
My goal for SPS tokens is to accumulate an amount of 50000 SPS staked.
Value of accumulated VOUCHER tokens
In the table below you can see the total number of VOUCHER tokens in my possession and the total market value is 181.1526 SWAP.HIVE = $93.4747.
Splinterlands Tower Defense packs value
On 20 September 2022 there was the Presale of the new Splinterlands game in development: Tower Defense (SPLTD).
I participated in the presale and purchased a total of 167 Tower Defense packs and spent:
- 760000 DEC
- 167 VOUCHERS
On the Dex of Hive's second level tokens the SPLTD packs are the NIGHTMARE tokens which have a current market value of 6.1034 SWAP.HIVE = 3.17$
The total value of the 167 SPLTD packs in my possession is 1019.2678 SWAP.HIVE = $530.11.
Some calculations...
I now have all the necessary data to calculate the financial results of my investment in Splinterlands (profit and ROI) over a period of more than 35 months.
Profit

The profit I got after 35 months of playing/investing on Splinterlands is $16502.10 (previous report $15077.24)
ROI
( Return On Investment )
A profit of 16502.10$ corresponds to a ROI of +2582.89% (ROI previous report +2440.20%)

Final Considerations
I am happy with the financial results I recorded today because after 7 months in which my investment in Spinterlands had a decrease in the value of profit and ROI, today I have seen a turnaround and both profit and ROI have returned to growth.
In an interval of 73 days the ROI went from 2440.20% to 2582.89% (+142.69%) and the Profit went from a value of 15077.24$ to a value of 15502.10$ (+1424.86$) with an average daily profit of 19.51$ over the last 73 days.
Splinterlands has many assets and offers many investment possibilities to choose from.
By the way, these investment possibilities are destined to increase in number in the future because the Splinterlands ecosystem will expand when the new games Tower Defense and Genesis League Goals will be playable.
The Tower Defense presale was a success and the Genesis League Goals presale is scheduled for 18 October 2022.
Starting 25 October, the airdrop of GLX tokens will begin, rewarding those who decided to accumulate and stake SPS tokens instead of selling them, and I will be able to add a new Splinterlands token to my wallet.

Il punto di partenza di ogni mio report finanziario su Splinterlands è il risultato che ho registrato nel mio report mensile precedente, report che ho pubblicato il 31 luglio 2022, 73 giorni fa, sul mio Hive blog.
Nel mio report precedente avevo registrato i seguenti risultati finanziari:

Valutazione di Splinterlands come Investimento

Costo Totale Investimento
Nota: Nel calcolo del costo totale del mio investimento su Splinterlands considero solo i costi che ho sostenuto immettendo liquidità esterna al gioco.
Ad esempio gli acquisti di NFTs che ho effettuato utilizzando le ricompense di gioco (DEC e SPS) o vendendo degli assets di Splinterlands in mio possesso non sono costi ma sono una semplice riallocazione delle risorse su assets diversi.
Per tanti mesi non ho aggiunto liquidità esterna nel mio investimento e quindi il costo totale del mio investimento è rimasto invariato.
In questo report devo registrare un aumento del costo totale dell'investimento perchè il 7 settembre 2022 ho acquistato 300 token VOUCHER per essere pronto per la Presale Tower Defense che è iniziata il 20 settembre 2022.
Poichè la differenza tra il ricavo che ho ottenuto dalla vendita dei token VOUCHER e il costo che ho sostenuto per l'acquisto che ho effettuato il 7 settembre è un valore negativo il costo totale del mio investimento su Splinterlands aumenta di 21.03$ rispetto al mio report precedente ed è di 638.90$.
Valore Totale Ricavi = Valore Totale Assets
Il valore totale dei ricavi che ho ottenuto investendo su Splinterlands è il risultato della somma del valore attuale di mercato di tutti gli assets in mio possesso (NFTs e tokens).
Il valore della mia collezione di carte
Grazie alla sezione My Cards dell'utilissimo sito di Peakmonsters è immediato e facile conoscere:
- il numero totale delle carte che compongono la mia collezione
- il valore totale e attuale della mia collezione di carte in base ai prezzi di listino e ai prezzi di mercato.
Oggi 12 Ottobre 2022 la mia collezione di carte è composta da un totale di 4049 carte e un totale di 14639 BCX.
In 73 giorni ho aumentato il numero di BCX di +555 unità.
Rispetto a 73 giorni fa il valore della mia collezione di carte è aumentato del +2.71%:
- 31 luglio 2022: 11425.18$
- 10 ottobre 2022: 11734.57$
Il valore dei miei token DEC
I token DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) sono i token nativi del gioco di Splinterlands e sono token di secondo livello della blockchain di Hive.
I token DEC sono degli utility token perchè hanno tanti casi d'uso.
Con il cambio delle ricompense delle Ranked Battles i token DEC non possono più essere guadagnati dalle attività di gioco e con questa modifica hanno diminuito la loro emissione ma hanno mantenuto tutti i casi d'uso.
Prevedendo un aumento di valore dei token DEC ho da tempo e prima che avvenisse la sostituzione dei token DEC con i token SPS nelle ricompense delle Ranked Battles cercato di aumentare il quantitativo di token DEC in mio possesso vendendo alcune carte che non usavo in battaglia.
Nel mio In-Game wallet ho un quantitativo totale di 181021.79 token DEC
Nel mio wallet su Hive Engine/TribalDex ho 750916.32 token DEC.
Ho deciso di investire nella Diesel Pool SWAP.HIVE-DEC nella quale ho una liquidità di 508967.50 DEC

Ricavi dalla vendita dei token DEC su Hive Engine
Tra i ricavi devo contabilizzare anche il guadagno che ho ottenuto il 5 ottobre 2020 dalla vendita di 81000 token DEC che ho utilizzato per fare un Power Up di 400 HP sulla mia amata Hive.
Oggi 12 ottobre 2022 400 token HIVE hanno un valore di 206.40$.
A partire dal mese di settembre ho iniziato a fare operazioni di trading sui token DEC con l'obiettivo di incrementare il mio investimento nella pool SWAP.HIVE-DEC.
Non sono un trader ma le mie prime operazioni di vendita e di successivo acquisto di token DEC mi hanno permesso di mantenere invariato il quantitativo di token DEC e di ottenere un profitto di 119.67911 SWAP.HIVE.
Il valore dei miei token PLOT
Il 21 novembre 2020 ho acquistato 3 PLOTS al costo totale di 22500 DEC (7500 DEC per plot)
Oggi un token PLOT può essere acquistato solo dai Dex dei token di secondo livello della blockchain di Hive come ad esempio da https://tribaldex.com/trade/PLOT.
Il valore di mercato odierno di un PLOT è di:
- 412.99 SWAP.HIVE = $215.19 (Lowest ASK)
- 400.00 SWAP.HIVE = $208.42 (Highest BID)
I tre token PLOT in mio possesso hanno un valore di mercato di 1200 SWAP.HIVE = 619.20$

Il 20 settembre 2022 c'è stata la Presale del nuovo gioco in via di sviluppo di Splinterlands: Tower Defense (SPLTD).
Io ho partecipato alla presale e ho acquistato un totale di 167 pacchi Tower Defense e ho speso:
- 760000 DEC
- 167 VOUCHER

Considerazioni Finali
Sono contento dei risultati finanziari che ho registrato oggi perchè dopo 7 mesi in cui il mio investimento su Spinterlands ha avuto una diminuzione del valore del profitto e del ROI oggi ho registrato una inversione di tendenza e sia il profitto che il ROI sono tornati a crescere.
In un intervallo di 73 giorni il ROI è passato dal 2440.20% al 2582.89% (+142.69%) e il Profitto è passato da un valore di 15077.24$ ad un valore di 15502.10$ (+1424.86$) con un guadagno giornaliero medio di 19.51$ negli ultimi 73 giorni.
Splinterlands ha tanti assets e offre tante possibilità di investimento tra cui scegliere.
Tra l'altro queste possibilità di investimento sono destinate ad aumentare di numero in futuro perchè l'ecosistema di Splinterlands si espanderà quando i nuovi giochi Tower Defense e Genesis League Goals saranno giocabili.
La presale Tower Defense è stata un successo mentre la presale Genesis League Goals è programmata per il 18 ottobre 2022.
A partire dal 25 ottobre inizierà l'airdrop dei token GLX che premierà chi ha deciso di accumulare i token SPS invece di venderli e aggiungerò un nuovo token di Splinterlands nel mio wallet.

No nessun vantaggio. Conservarli chiusi ha solo un possibile fine, venderli in futuro quando tutti i pacchi saranno terminati e se l'andamento del valore dovesse seguire quello avvenuto per altri pacchetti potresti ottenere un bel guadagno futuro ma ovviamente devi tenere conto che i tempi per un'operazione di questo tipo sono lunghi e non esenti da rischi ;)

Purtroppo ultimamente sto perdendo tantissime partite in Splinterlands, quindi in questo momento sto pensando anch’io di iniziare ad aprire gran parte dei pacchetti di carte che ho acquistato. Anche nelle Guild perdo davvero tante volte. Io credo che debba aggiornarmi di più, probabilmente l’aggiornamento del mazzo che ho fatto durante l’estate è insufficiente… anzi direi che possiamo togliere il probabilmente, in quanto ormai la chiusura stagionale in Diamond III, che tempo fa non era un grosso problema, adesso è diventato quasi un miraggio.

I am little clumsy when it comes to keeping records but at the end everything eventually find its way.
While Splinterlands is probably one of those games which literally influenced people to see the bigger picture in gaming industry and that even in the blockchain. Previously games such as Axie Infinity created such hype but eventually they were not able to sustain that hype and keep the balance. In this regard Splinterlands has done a great job.
But coming to the point the assets that SL players has managed to accumulate is going to be worth much more than we can imagine. One hype and we saw where it could go.
Congrats on obtaining such Roi and mostly sticking to HIVE and SL all through this time. That's appreciatable.
Thank you for your comment and I totally agree with you, Splinterlands has done a really good job so far and if we consider that we are in Bear Market what Splinterlands has done is even more valuable.
My only regret is that I didn't invest more at the beginning but even if I would have liked to I didn't have funds to invest at that time...but I am convinced like you that big satisfactions may still come in the future for us Splinterlands players and investors ;)

Eh si infatti il mio grosso rimpianto è quello di non aver investito molto di più all'inizio ma a quel tempo non avevo fondi disponibili da investire ma sono comunque soddisfatto perchè sono partito da 10$ e la parte che ho poi investito successivamente era parte del powerdown totale che avevo fatto su Steemit quando è nata Hive e quindi Splinterlands è un esempio di come un progetto blockchain possa essere divertente da giocare ma anche molto profittevole ;)

Yes I was undecided whether to put the Tower Defense packs in the report or not but then I decided to consider it also because since it is not a playable game yet it is for the time being an investment I made only as a Splinterlands project but when it is playable I will consider the Tower Defense packs a separate investment.
By the way in my reports I like to consider the lower value of my assets and if I had chosen to count as revenue the DECs and VOUCHERS that I spent to purchase the Tower Defense packs I would have recorded a higher profit.
