Modern or Wild Format or Both? My Seasonal Test Evaluations

dividerHive2.png

On Splinterlands, season number 135 ended a few hours ago and season 136 has begun, which will end in about 14 days and 19 hours.

image.png

Since bots and battle helpers have been banned in Modern Format ranked battles I switched from Wild Format to Modern Format because I like to play on Splinterlands and I like to play only against real players like me.

Season 135 just ended was a special season for me because it was also a testing season because I played in both formats.

image.png

I decided to do this test to evaluate whether it is more convenient for me to put my Beta and Untamed cards for hire or is it more convenient to use them in Wild Format battles.

For my test, I have chosen a one-month duration (2 seasons) so I will be playing in both formats in the current season as well.

To have easier test results to compare at the beginning of season 135, I divided the amount of staked SPS tokens in my possession (96K SPS) between my main account (@libertycrypto27) and my curation account for SPT tokens (@libertygame27) to which I delegated 48K SPS.
With libertycrypto27 I played in the Modern Format.
I delegated almost all of my Beta and Untamed cards to libertygame27 with whom I played the entire season in the Wild Format.

My main focus will still be on Modern Format but for another 15 days will continue to play in both formats.

With libertycrypto27 I used in Modern Format a card collection consisting of 941 cards = 18863 BCX worth 1915$ and a CP = 451210

image.png

With libertygame27 I used in the Wild Format a card collection consisting of 79 cards = 2071 BCX worth 676$ and a CP = 89970

image.png

libertycrypto27 finished the season in league Gold II of the Modern Format

image.png

libertygame27 has finished the season in league Champion III of the Wild Format

image.png

The win rate of the two accounts was similar with a slight advantage in the wild format where I played a smaller number of battles, however.

image.png

With libertycrypto27 in the Modern Format I gained 500.22 SPS from wins in battles during season 135.

image.png

This data is important because it showed me that reducing staking in SPS by 50% produced a reduction in SPS gain for battle wins of only -105 SPS compared to the previous season.

image.png

The decrease in SPS gain of libertycrypto27 was offset by the SPS gain of libertygame27 who gained from battle victories in the Wild Format a total of 168.87 SPS.

image.png

Playing with two accounts in the Wild Format and Modern Format allowed me to earn only +63.5 SPS compared to the previous season.

Instead I earned many more GLINT tokens because in the Wild Format even though the gain in SPS is significantly lower, for the same amount of SPS staked, it is much easier to advance in the higher leagues and as a result it is possible to earn more GLINT tokens even with a much lower value card collection than the value of the card collection I use in the Modern Format.

image.png

I will do 15 more days of testing playing with two accounts but for now the advantage of playing with two accounts, one in the Wild Format and one in the Modern Format, does not seem very advantageous.

However, my test still has value because it leads to some considerations.

Those who have more interest in accumulating GLINT tokens than SPS tokens because they want to increase the number of soulbound cards that can be used in play should tend to play in the Wild Format.
Those who have more interest in accumulating SPS tokens should tend to play in the Modern Format.

In the Wild Format it is much easier to advance in the higher leagues but it is also in my opinion much less fun to play because there are so many bots.

There may be future changes in the Wild Format to limit bots that could change the current reward pool distribution but for now it is a format full of bots.

In the Wild Format to get to Champion III leagues I used a collection of cards worth about $800 but I used in battles half the cards I have on hand and this element indicates that to play in the Champion leagues of the Wild Format even a much smaller investment might suffice.

My season testing showed me that using my Beta and Untamed cards in the Wild Format instead of dale for rent was not a good decision but, in addition to playing I also like to test and will continue my testing in the current season and then better evaluate my future choices.

I will conclude this post by showing the recent changes made to the price in GLINT of Minor Chests and Major Chests.
The Ultimate Chests have kept the purchase price unchanged while the Remaining attribute par all Loot Chests has increased.

image.png

I, as my first purchase at the beginning of the season purchased 100 Rare Draw because my main goal related to soulbound cards is to advance all soulbound summoners to the maximum level.

image.png

I really like the new feature that allows you to choose whether or not to use potions at the same time as purchasing drawsp because it is very useful .

image.png

At the next link you can see the 100 cards I found inside the 100 Rare Draws I opened: https://next.splinterlands.com/shop/rewards?t=6ea848d2139ef2d5c541ab08a4be4a7f16882c54&ref=libertycrypto27

Thanks to the soulbound cards I found today, I made some progress because I completed the upgrade of Riverboat Captain, Pembrook Nymph but I still have 5 rare summoners and 5 rare monster cards to upgrade to max level.

I hope I have given you useful information and thank you for taking the time to read my post :)

Formato Moderno o Formato Wild o entrambi?

image.png

Mi piace molto la nuova funzionalità che permette di scegliere se utilizzare le pozioni oppure no contestualmente all'acquisto dei Draws perchè è molto utile.

image.png

Wow what a great test good friend, it's interesting how the Modern Format feels more competitive and engaging without bots, but I agree that the Wild Format seems easier for earning rewards despite the bots. Balancing the two formats seems tricky though

It looks like what I thought was true. Modern is better for those with good decks for SPS while Wild is better for Glint. I think it has more to deal with the league because I think the Glint would be similar in Modern if you were in Champion.

Thanks for sharing your results. It really shows what a conundrum we are in with the game and that despite all the tinkering, without tackling head on the issue (bots), you just move problems around or create new ones. I am not sure what league to play in now either, especially if they will bring in their own bots in modern, then the whole bot free thing was just a waste of time. Then we have the latest proposal, whilst I think a battle pass format could be good for the game, it doesn't work with bots and bot farms.

Thank you for your comment and I fully agree with your thoughts, if there is a problem it should be solved in the most direct and simple way possible but it always seems that Splinterlands wants to choose complicated solutions for the bots problem

I think the experiment has proven that you can potentially earn more Glint in wild and while you can earn DEC by putting your wild deck in the market I still think that it's a choice you have to make.

You cannot transfer soulbound cards to your main account so whatever you earn will still be used to play in your secondary account. For me I'll put my wild deck in the market because eventually it might grow more DEC income to grow your main account.

Yes you are right my friend.
I did this test just to see if I could earn more SPS and if the gain in SPS could outweigh the loss of income from the rental market but for the time being my test showed that it is more convenient for me to put Beta and Untamed cards in rental instead of playing in the Wild as well

I've been playing Splinterlands on a bot for a long time now. I've never been in favor of bots anywhere, but because of the time gain in my life and to be able to do other things for hive, like organizing the Brazilian community and even having time to spend with my family, I've been letting the bot play in the wild, despite all the reductions and other things.

Now with the proposal that looks like it's going to pass about charging to play in the wild... I'll have to rethink whether it's worth it for me to keep playing or not. These are difficult times.

I'm trying out Modern because I am anticipating the pay-to-play proposal passing and will not pay that to play in Wild. It's frustrating to see that even with all of the newer cards, lower levels are still just filled with magic spam. Everyone just plays the same stuff all the time. And I have yet to come across a single account that wasn't just playing all level 1 cards. Sometimes, I try to get creative with my lineups, but if I don't count on them using the magic boost summoner and magic cards, then I'll actually lose even though I'm not using level 1 cards. It's just not fun to play. Idk what I'll do going forward. Maybe once I get out of Bronze, it'll be more fun, but idk.
