Illuvium Overworld Open Beta: The exploration of the Sanctum Mesa region
Thirteen days ago I shared in a post on my Hive blog my first experience playing on Illuvium Overworld Open Beta.

Today I finally had some free time to continue playing and testing this game and in this post I continue to share my gaming activity and impressions.
Illivium Overworld is a Pokemon-style RPG game built on Ethereum.
The Open Beta version is free-to-play but the game will have play-to earn dynamics in the future linked to ILV (ERC-20) and sILV tokens and NFTs in the game.
To play in the Open Beta version you must have:
- an ImmutableX Passport (not custodial wallet)
- an Illivium account
- an Epic Games account
Note that all game progress and all NFT assets obtained during the Open Beta phase will be cancelled when the full game is released.
In my previous post, I shared my first impressions after completing the tutorial during which I captured my first two Illuvials:
- Lesser Earth Doka
- Lesser Earth Grokko
Today I started the first phase of the game and explored the Sanctum Mesa region.
In fact, on Illuvium Overworld Open Beta there are several regions in which you need to complete different tasks, collect and use different resources, and capture Illuvians through fights in arenas.
Today I explored the entire Sanctum Mesa region starting from the area where the Hobelisk is located.
In the upper left part of the screen, the Tasks to be completed are always visible.
Near the hobelisk is a teleport that allows you to be quickly transported to the area of the region where there are several facilities to access:
- to the fusion section
- to the section of the Forge
- to the leaderboard
- to the arena
- to the section where there are options for modifying one's character and drone
Exploring the Sanctum Mesa region allowed me to familiarize with the game controls and allowed me to become familiar with using the various features.
To view the game controls, you must press the ESC key and then go to Controls.
I recently purchased a new Desktop Pc and thanks to Illuvium I was able to put my new Pc configuration to the test by setting the graphics options to maximum and setting the Framerate Cap to Off.
My new desktop Pc (i5-14500 - 32 GB RAM) and my Geoforce RTX 4060 performed well while maintaining an FPS between 127 FPS and 144 FPS.
Graphically, I really like the scenery of Illuvium and also the environment of the Sanctum Mesa region that I explored today and it is also fun to drive the character between runs, multiple jumps and flights.
In fact, after a jump you can fly by activating the jetpack by holding down the SHIFT key.
Pressing the Q key can change the view for a limited time to more easily locate interactive and important objects in the game.
The only thing that could be improved in my opinion is to add interactivity to more objects in the area and also the character's movements when encountering obstacles could be improved.
I explored the whole region today but didn't find any important and useful resources to complete the tasks.
For this reason via the map (viewable by pressing the M key) I teleported to the Hobelisk and after pressing the E key I chose to travel and go to the Abyssal Basin region.
The Abyssal Basin region is very different from the Sanctum Mesa region because there is little light and a lot of water and there are big mushroom trees but it is equally beautiful.
I immediately activated the jetpack and started exploring the region.
I quickly found a resource but my game activity in the Abyssal Basin region will be the topic of my next post about Illuvium Overworld.
Before trying Illuvium Overworld Open Beta I had only played the Hive-based games and the Wax-based games, and I must say that I was positively impressed by the playability and graphics of this RPG.
The gap between Web 2.0 games and Web 3.0 games is still wide but continues to narrow as time goes on, and Illuvium Overworld Open Beta is a demonstration of this.
Important Note
Blockchain-based games that allow people to buy and sell game assets (tokens and NFTs) are not just games but are also investments and should be treated as such!

Oggi ho avuto finalmente un pò di tempo libero per continuare a giocare e a provare questo gioco e in questo post continuo a condividere la mia attività di gioco e le mie impressioni.
Illivium Overworld è un RPG game in stile Pokemon costruito su Ethereum.
La versione Open Beta è free-to play ma il gioco avrà dinamiche play-to earn in futuro collegate ai token ILV (ERC-20) e sILV e agli NFTs del gioco.
Per giocare nella versione Open Beta è necessario avere:

Nota che tutti i progressi di gioco e tutti gli NFT assets ottenuti durante la fase Open Beta saranno annullati quando il gioco completo sarà rilasciato.
Nel mio precedente post ho condiviso le mie prime impressioni dopo aver completato il tutorial durante il quale ho catturato i miei primi due Illuvials:
- Lesser Earth Doka
- Lesser Earth Grokko
Oggi ho iniziato la prima fase del gioco e ho esplorato la regione Sanctum Mesa.
Infatti su Illuvium Overworld Open Beta ci sono diverse regioni nelle quali è necessario completare diversi tasks, raccogliere e utilizzare diverse risorse e catturare gli Illuvians tramite dei combattimenti nelle arene.
Oggi ho esplorato tutta la regione Sanctum Mesa partendo dall'area in cui è situato l'Hobelisk.
Nella parte in alto a sinistra dello schermo sono sempre visibili i Tasks da completare.
Ai piedi dell'hobelisk c'è un teleport che permette di essere trasportati velocemente nell'area della regione in cui ci sono diverse strutture per accedere:
- alla sezione della fusione
- alla sezione del Forge
- alla leaderboard
- all'arena
- alla sezione in cui ci sono le opzioni di modifica del proprio personaggio e del proprio drone
L'esplorazione della regione Sanctum Mesa mi ha permesso di familiarizzare con i comandi del gioco e mi ha permesso di impratichirmi nell'utilizzo delle varie funzionalità.
Per visualizzare i comandi di gioco è necessario premere il tast ESC e poi andare su Controls.
Ho da poco acquistato un nuovo Desktop Pc e grazie a Illuvium ho potuto mettere alla prova la mia nuova configurazione Pc settando le opzioni grafiche al massimo e mettendo su Off il Framerate Cap.
Il mio nuovo desktop Pc (i5-14500 - 32 GB RAM) e la mia Geoforce RTX 4060 si sono comportati bene mantenendo un FPS tra i 127 FPS e i 144 FPS.
Dal punto vista grafico mi piacciono molto gli scenari di Illuvium e anche l'ambientazione della regione Sanctum Mesa che ho esplorato oggi ed è anche divertente guidare il personaggio tra corse, salti multipli e voli.
Infatti dopo un salto è possibile volare attivando il jetpack tenendo premuto il tasto SHIFT.
Premendo il tasto Q è possibile cambiare visualizzazione per un tempo limitato per individuare gli oggetti interattivi e importanti nel gioco.
L'unica cosa che potrebbe essere migliorata secondo me è aggiungere interattività ad un maggior numero di oggetti nell'area.
Oggi ho esplorato tutta la regione ma non ho trovato nessuna risorsa importante e utile per completare le tasks.
Per questo motivo tramite la mappa (visualizzabile premendo il tasto M) mi sono teletrasportato all'Hobeliks e dopo aver premuto il tasto E ho scelto di viaggiare e andare nella regione Abyssal Basin.
La regione Abyssal Basin è molto diversa dalla regione Sanctum Mesa perchè c'è poca luce e molta acqua e ci sono dei grossi alberi fungo ma è altrettanto bella.
Ho subito azionato il jetpack e ho iniziato ad esplorare la regione.
Ho subito trovato una risorsa ma la mia attività di gioco nella regione Abyssal Basin sarà l'argomento del mio prossimo post su Illuvium Overworld.
Prima di provare Illuvium Overworld Open Beta avevo solo giocato ai giochi Hive-based e ai giochi Wax-based e devo dire che sono rimasto impressionato positivamente dalla giocabilità e dalla grafica di questo RPG.
Il divario tra i giochi web 2.0 e i giochi web 3.0 è ancora ampio ma si sta decisamente assottigliando con il passare del tempo e Illuvium Overworld Open Beta è una dimostrazione di questo.

It looks nice and I haven't tried it yet. I think it's still in beta so there is time to improve things and I hope the developers actually take them into consideration.
Yes it is a very well made game and if they continue to improve it it could be successful.
The only flaw is that it is an eth based game although immutable x allows for lower transaction costs

Graficamente comunque non è affatto male e anche lato animazioni si difende: come hai evidenziato te la pecca principale, che si nota anche dai tuoi screen, è che il mondo di gioco, per quanto bello, sembra un po' "vuoto". Spero che con il tempo aggiungano oggetti e creature a popolarlo in modo che da poterci interagire e sentirsi parte di un mondo più vivo!

Si hai ragione, è un bel gioco ma è anche pesantuccio e infatti è il primo gioco che ho provato che ha fatto azionare le ventole della mia scheda video :)
Forse un altro aspetto in cui i blockchain games devono migliorare è l'ottimizzazione delle risorse per ampliare il potenziale bacino di giocatori
