Our Thoughts on Rebranding LeoFinance and What We're Aiming to Achieve with Project Blank
So it's official... Project Blank is now LIVE! After 2 years of talking about, designing and developing this project, you can now head over to https://alpha.leofinance.io and start using it!
Project Blank changes everything both for Hive and for LeoFinance. It is the beginning of a new era for content creators and consumers.
We've been shattering record after record since the new UI went live. Over 2500 Threads are now being posted per day whereas we were seeing 500 threads per day prior to the start of 2023.
This is really amazing!
With all of this in mind, people are constantly asking: are threads closed off to Finance Content only like LeoFinance was in the early days?
OR....
Can you post anything on Threads? Any topic? Anything?
Threads opens us up to any topic. Our mission is still centered around overtaking Crypto Twitter and that's what the LeoFinance brand is about BUT we have built out the content segmentation tools to allow any type of content.
In This Clip
- The whole thesis of opening LF to any type of content on Threads is key, we even thought of rebranding LF
- The importance of having a niche audience on LF is beneficial, so LF is for finance and crypto but Threads is for everything, it’s just that the core and identity is still Finance/crypto.
- We put out the tools and the users decide what to do with it: Threads is crypto and finance Twitter on-chain but people can post about everything and anything.
- Ad revenue doesn’t care about what you post about, it cares about clickthrough rate, engagement, time spent in the UI etc.

First off, definitely a big CONGRATULATIONS on the seemingly immediate success of Threads, in broader release!
You guys face some interesting and challenging decisions, on the "niche vs. general" front. The thing about niches (in this case, finance/crypto) is that you can only go as far as the niche identity can reach... but when you open to generalization — typically in service on continued growth — you also risk losing the "heart and soul" of the original creation. Whether that's "good" or "bad" is ultimately a question of values and priorities.
Consider a company like eBay. eBay was a HUGELY successful "collectibles marketplace and online flea market" in its early incarnations (1990s to maybe 2002) but today it basically looks like "just another online Walmart/Amazon clone." Many of the people who created eBay hardly recognize it today, and most have given up using it because they are individual collectibles traders who get lost among the corporate giants.
LeoFinance might be a little different because of the number of people who "hold stake" in the outcome... undoubtedly someone will still hold stake... the question is how much you care who they are.
Just a rambling flow-of-consciousness opinion!

Maybe, maybe, LeoFinance can be one of multiple niche communities that use the same tech. LeoFinance has created the tech. Maybe it would be possible to find a way so that others can utilize the same tech to create their own microblogging platform. Like a swarm of many niche communities.
I agree with keeping the niche for Leofinance.io and I think that opening up Threads is a perfect compromise.
It doesn't excise the heart and soul of Leofinance, but opens up an area for non financial bloggers to join the community on their own terms without spoiling or drowning out the old timers in a sea of non-financial posts.
It's hard to herd cats and harder to govern humans.
Good Luck
