The SHIOK Maki at Koh Grill & Sushi Bar

Located in Orchard Road within Wisma Atria is an unassuming eatery — Koh Grill and Sushi Bar. Anyone who works here in town has probably tried it at least once during their lunch/after work hours. Most eateries like this would normally be a standalone restaurant but this one has gotten so popular that they've expanded outwards into the common dining area of the food centre.

Normally, there will be a pretty long queue during such peak hours, but I was lucky to be here just before the rush hour crowds came in. I barely made it though. I was one of those who got the last few available seats and everyone abit after me had to spend a pretty long time waiting in the queue after that.

This eatery's signature dishes are their 2 different versions of "The Shiok Maki". "Shiok" being a Singaporean (and Malaysian?) slang word for really good. I simply ordered both so that I wouldn't have to be torn between choosing either of the two. The difference between both are the innermost fillings, one being grilled unagi and the other an ebi fry prawn. They're wrapped with a layer of salmon drizlled with a special sauce and then flame grilled and topped with roe. Needless to say, it was as it's name implies, SHIOK. :) Every mouthful was bursting with flavour!

That wasn't the only thing I ordered too. I also had some chawanmushi, soft shell crab tempura and grill beef. They were all pretty good, especially the beef which was grilled to perfection and still really juicy. However, after having eaten the signature maki dishes, everything else is pretty tame in comparison.

This isn't my first time here and I will probably be back here some time again in the future. Should anyone come here with limited stomach space, I would suggest to just go for both their signature Maki dishes. :)
