JOAN'S NOTES:

Man-made rules really made life difficult for women to break through to prove themselves adequate to tackle many tasks.

Pertinent memory of women not being allowed to sow seed in the fields, I remember the older generation speaking about such matters.

My own Gran would never allow anyone in the house to do much/anything on a Sunday you had to sit quietly child..., (get bored) it was the day of rest, she prepared everything on Saturdays and washed dishes on the Monday, always seemed a little over the top even to a child.

Women in agriculture are booming through co-ops over here which is a wonderful step forward as they normally prepared the fields (never sowed) but sure did other hard task of harvesting!

So glad to hear the women of the world are slowly shaking the shackles of old wives tales and embracing a future for themselves!

JOAN'S NOTES:

I remember jackets mainly had shoulder pads along with some evening gowns, never blouses.

Shoulder pads made me too hot, I cut them out before wearing them or once they started slipping around in a garment, yes fashionable but not a favourite.

JOAN'S NOTES:

Being exceptionally young when periods arrived with no warning was never fun, my Mom was ready to assist immediately, then made it abundantly clear to older brothers at the same time to put everyone in the home aware of changes girls go through.

Initially very difficult approaching Mom in the first place as their generation had used massive pads with special belt which really was not comfortable when cycling to school and back, also meant you had to stop swimming for a week. Tampons had arrived in the market around that time, I phoned the chemist and had them deliver the first time, once I knew what I was dealing with, I was able to make my own purchases it was no longer a problem, my parents giving me a little cash to overcome this every month.

Such a big part in each girls life, thank goodness times have changed this type of education now taught in our schools at a lot younger for children to better understand.

JOAN'S NOTES:

Haha, we ran the gauntlet in many cases, police did not know what to do with women uprising, or were we too fast outpacing them ??

You have a couple of months on me, good vintage most definitely proven, still standing firm with both feet firmly planted. Little did the parents know older brothers being chaperones was not always..., well they also got to have loads of fun you brought your younger friends around to the home as well!

LUV the walk down memory lane, battles are won yet war continues no one must stop fighting for the rights of all who are down trodden.

JOAN'S NOTES:

Taking a step into predominantly male-oriented field often left women battling to become employed even though equally educated.

Moving forward with more women going into technology fields, finding balance and assistance while raising families much has changed, hopefully with time all employment opportunities will be equal.

JOAN'S NOTES:

Oh what a lovely walk down memory lane through office life as a young person, you definitely got to learn a lot in no time at all having hands on work that had to be completed.

JOAN'S NOTES:

Most pertinent change you encountered growing up, early lessons had taught you to problem solve not relying on electronic equipment. A taste of two worlds I agree with computers only starting in our country around the same time.
